Just in case anyone does not believe Hill has been shut down for the remainder of the year here is Manish Tweet Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN 5h Jets shut down WR Stephen Hill for year with ailing knee #nyj http://fw.to/ytKMXfO
Agreed But he's shown glimpses of being more then capable of burning a secondary. He's also really tall. Just needs to work on his ball skills.
Well that raises the question: why does Stephen Hill, a full two years later STILL have to work on his "ball skills?" Are his technical flaws lost on Sanjay Lal and more to the point, what (if anything) has Lal done coaching-wise to address them?
You don't learn how to become a WR at the NFL level lol. If Hill had any balls skills at all, they would've been developed and honed years ago. Hill is easily replaceable.
So you would've cut Roddy White after his second year (26 rec 416 yds, 0 TD)? How about Miles Austin (13 rec 278 yds, 3 TD)? Vincent Jackson (24 rec 425, 5 TD)? What about the beloved Jerricho Cotchery (18 rec 206, 0 TD)? Stevie Johnson (2 rec, 10 yds, 0 TDs)? Fellow GT alum DeMaryius Thomas (29 rec 517 yds, 4 TD)? Cut the kid some slack. Yes, Hill hasn't jumped right in and dominated, but for some WRs, it takes time. It is just his second season and his first eight games were pretty solid (24 rec., 340 yds, 1 TD). He's been playing hurt all year and our QB play has been awful. He was an admitted project, but you can't teach his measurables. I'm still holding out hope that IF healthy, he can be a game changer down the road.
It has nothing to do with the experience factor when it comes to Hill. You could give him 5 years and he'll still suck. You watch any of those guys you named in their rookie year and there's no comparison in terms of natural play making ability. Most of those numbers Hill put up this year came in only a few games. He's been invisible the rest of the time. This has much less to do with stats and his measurables; and everything to do with playing the position. He is not a natural WR. Just watch him move out there. He's awkward at best. Add to that he has shitty hands, never high points the ball and plays much smaller than 6'4. I have nothing against the kid personally, he seems like a stand up guy. But he is not even a decent WR and we could easily find better.
That's fine, but it's just your opinion. He had catches in 7 of his first 8 games before he got hurt, and was on pace to double his stats from last year. I see a work in progress - Not Jon Baldwin or AJ Jenkins - and to me, the jury is still out on whether he can play. My biggest concern is his knees.
Last year he couldn't catch shit. Beginning of this year when he was getting targets his hands were improved Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Totally agree. He has been hurt most of the year, with an ailing knee that precluded him from running the routes where shifting direction and quick turns are a must. He could have benefitted from a QB that placed the ball accurately when the opportunity arouse.
As long as Hill is on his rookie contract there is little reason to cut him. That said, he shouldn't be above 5th on the depth chart unless he's distinguishing himself in practice and on the field.
I think too many people are confusing his performance while injured with his actual potential. He's been having knee trouble. When healthy, he's burned secondaries multiple times. Getting rid of this guy would be an epic mistake.
Agreed Not sure if he will ever be a great player but he definitely has potential. He's been playing hurt and has gone through 2 different QB's and 2 different coordinators. That's going to stunt the development for a guy who is a project player to begin with.
Sanchez has shown glimpses of being more than capable of picking defenses apart. Just needs to work on his overall QB aptitude.
Did you see why they put him on IR? I have bad knees myself and sometimes they make me move awkwardly. In Hill's case it isn't bad knees but a knee injury. Personally I think his shot to the head earlier this year might have had more to do with his performance drop off but putting him on IR for concussion related issues, in this day and age, after Hill was diagnosed with a concussion earlier probably seemed like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Especially since the jets have not only been playing Hill but starting him. Anyway, I think peeps are overly worried. Barring injury I think Hill will be okay at wideout next year. I don't think he ever makes it past no. 2 WR, but he will be a fine 2 or 3. I know that seems like abject failure to most peeps here but it isn't Hill's fault he was drafted so high.
EXACTLY!!! It is so frustrating, and a little pathetic, that our fan base has such poor analytical skills that they cannot tell the difference. OTOH, maybe we just have an uber healthy population of fans who cannot relate to being limited by injury. Yea.... Right....
Stephen Hill reminds me of nothing, hes instantly forgetable.Hes another 5 year project drafted by the Jets
Do you guys realize the Bears drafted Alshon Jeffrey with num 13 pick in second round. They traded up just like we did only we Drafted The Milk Carton with the num 11 pick in the second round.Great job by Mr.T and the scouting department
