Your weekly slow-pitch softball does not count:up:.

    Softball guy:

    1. The guy who CLAIMS to have been great at Texas University and says he could of made the big leagues but the coach screwed him over.

    2. The score-keeper. The biggest loser. Records stats of his softball team and sets the lineup according to pitching matchups.

    Which is it devil?

It's actually a fast pitch baseball wood bat league for 18+. I pitch and play 3rd base, but since all the other pitchers on our team got hurt, I didn't play much at 3rd this year.

    The last 2 postseasons:

    ARod: 3-29, .103, ZERO RBI
    Cano: 7-34, .206 5 RBI
    Matsui: 8-36, .222, 2 RBI
    Sheff: 7-33, .212, 3 RBI
    Giambi: 9-27, .333, 4 RBI

None of these other guys were great but all were above. 200 while ARod was almost below .100 and all had at least 2 RBI and ARod had zero. ARod was FAR AND AWAY our worst player in the past 2 postseasons.

I thouth it might be time for a change but I have no problem w/ Joe staying. As long as we get rid of certain overpaid, underproducing players I will be happy. I don't care if we sign or trade for guys in the offseason it will be addition by subtraction to get rid of a few guys.

Well, Cashman has already said he has no plans to trade ARod, so there is one underachiever that isn't going anywhere.

What do yo want him to say? "we need to trade ARod, there's now way he'll be a Yankee"? he has to say that b/c in the event we can't trade him Alex's fragile psyche might get a boo boo and that will be his excuse for '07. They will be actively trying to trade him.

Oh I totally agree. I posted that same thing in the "official offseason" thread. I am look at this solely as a posturing move by Cash. Artificially inflate ARod's value by making it sound like they are still committed to keeping him. Then when the phone rings, and some other GM says "How willing would you be to trade Alex to us?" Cashman can respond "Well, that depends, what are you looking to offer?"

Hopefully, ARod is on the same page. I'm hoping his statements that he is committed to being a Yankee were just posturing on his own part, in an effort to make him look loyal to any possible suitors.

If we're lucky, Pinella will get hired somewhere, and ask for ARod. Then ARod gets his wish to be the teacher's pet again, and we get some value for his useless talent.

If the Yankees want to get rid of him, they're going to have to take pennies on the (percieved) dollar and pay a chunk of his salary to do it. Postseason struggles aside 2 out of the last 3 years he has merely been a "good" player in the regular season. He certainly has the potential to put up MVP numbers like he did in 05 but he's no longer a lock to do so and probably has fallen out of the elite group of hitters at the top of the league.

I can't see any team going nuts to acquire him.

Yeah, and Im sorry if this was mentioned..and Im sure you know this 3rd, Texas is already paying him about 30% of his salary which would carry over to the next team he was traded to, I presume.

The question is simple..is he worth $17 million a year? Thats about what the Yanks are on the hook for...and it could get complicated if the Yanks trade him and cover lets say 3 or 4 million a year. So it would breakdown that he is getting paid by 3 teams?

Not sure if the Yanks trade him whether the Texas part of the deal is no longer...I would think not..just not sure.

As far as teams going nuts to go after him..not sure if I agree with that. You will be getting at least a very good shortstop...and his numbers will probably improve in a different market.

Now dont get wrong...its risky stuff. Has arod been beaten mentally so badly that theres no turning back? Could be...what I saw this year was probably the biggest meltdown of a true superstar ever. That was a meltdown..and thats the only reason I would never go after this guy..even if it "only" cost me $12 million a year.

On the upside...if he recovers...putting a shortstop out there that hits 45-50 homers and drives in 130+ runs can put a team like San Diego...the Angels...the Giants...the Astros...the White Sox etc...over the top and in to the playoffs.

The White Sox took a chance on Thome..and he cost them $12 million a year..and he carried them last year.

I believe there are 3 to 5 teams that will make good offers..and 1 or 2 that have Cashman doing cartwheels underground in Yankee Stadium..and if we can get one or two TRUE prospects..and a number 1/2 starter..I would jump all over it.

This guy will never recover here. He reminds me of the kid that fell off the bike...and hes NOT getting back on..no matter what.

EDIT: The success of guys like Kenny Rogers..and Jose Contreas is actually a good thing in this situation..it proves to other teams that these guys can go to a "smaller" market and succeed not only during the season..but in the playoffs.

I don't know that he goes back to SS if he's traded to another team. He's on the wrong side of 30 and has been playing 3B for the past 3 years.

Thats true...but if it helps him put up 50 homers again..and straighten out his brain...it would be a nice risk for a team thats close to take.

    ME??

I wouldnt go near him with a 10 foot pole..but someone will.
