Why would the jets want to evaluate a player in a lost season when they can play a turnover machine who is on a one year deal? That's just too sensible
Smith has 31 INTs in 24 starts. Smith has been bench FIVE times in 24 starts. If he hadn't been benched so much he would possibly have 1/2 dozen more INTs. Name one QB the Jets have ever had that has played that bad and still been even in the discussion as possible starting again. Idzik was suppose to be the guy that believed in competition at every spot and giving younger players the chance to prove themselves. He has done neither. Simms would make the fans that will actually show up cheer. There are still a lot of fans that don't even want Vick on the team (including me), let alone starting. Look at the times Vick has been on the field so far this year, he is lost!
I agree that they should give Simms an audition if for no other reason than to preserve some interest in this godforsaken season.
Simms will get his shot Dec 7th at Vikings when Jets are 1-11 Vick Starts the next 2 weeks and sucks it up. Team goes back to Geno after the Bye for 2 more stinkers.
Sad to say, but your probably right. Vick sucks will suck so bad they will put Smith back in, I just don't see then giving Simms a shot. Simms would energize the fans, a local boy, famous NY QB dad, and he has an energy on the field.
Simms went from no. 2 Qb last year to the practice squad. But when he did play last year he didn't look so great. It was his opportunity to show what he could do and he didn't play all that well. His resume is basically exhibition games. But I'm not against giving him a chance later in the year.
