Star Wars TV A Ways Off Rick McCallum, George Lucas' longtime Star Wars producing partner, told SCI FI Wire that future projects are a ways off, including a live-action TV show that is at least a year and a half away. "Star Wars TV series, probably not for a couple of years," McCallum said in an interview at the Saturn Awards in Universal City, Calif., on May 2. "George is starting to start the basic concept of it. ... We're interviewing writers. We're seeing a lot of people. But I'd say it's not going to be happening for another at least 18 months." McCallum also denied rumors that the new series would focus on members of the Skywalker family, but repeated that the show will take place in the timeframe between Episode III and IV. "All-new characters," he added. "That missing 20-year period when Luke is growing up. ... Think bounty hunter. That's all I can tell you. There's nobody else that you'll know [in it]. At the moment. You know, it's still [in] really, really early stages. He hasn't really sat down to think about which direction [he's going]." McCallum added that 3-D theatrical versions of the Star Wars movies are still planned. "We're working on that," he said. "It's just a question of how many theaters will be out there. Hopefully, by the end of this year there will be about 1,500 [3-D] theaters. We need about two or three thousand before it makes it, you know, viable for any of us to go out in 3-D. But that looks like it will happen sometime in the year 2007, so hopefully we'll be happy about that." Lucas is also planning a new run of Clone Wars-themed animated shorts. "There's an animated series being done right now, so that probably also won't be ready for another year," McCallum said. "But, yeah, that's looking really good." —Patrick Lee, News Editor
I'm young. So old school graphics to me are almost as comical as bad lines. 1. Revenge 2. Empire (real close 2) 3. Return 4. Attack 5. Hope 6. Phantom
you can't tell me this doesn't give you chills. Obi-Wan: You were the chosen one. It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them. Bring balance to the Force, not leave it in darkness. Anakin Skywalker: I HATE YOU. Obi-Wan: You were my brother Anakin. I loved you. [Anakin's leg stumps catch fire, his entire body is engulfed in flames. Obi-Wan collects Anakin's lightsabre and walks off
it sure does...just reading it. I can't wait for more books to come out that take place between ep. 3 and ep. 4
i actually just watched revenge of the sith last night, and i think it is my favorite of the bunch. but then again i havent seen the episodes 4-6 in a few years, and back then i didnt really pay attention to the stories, so i think im going to rewatch them. maybe ill get all 3 on DVD and watch them in order over the course of a few days, that way i can get teh entire story straight. one thing about revenge that i disliked was that the wookie battle shouldve been bigger and longer. i was all hyped up to see a huge battle go on for several minutes, and all i got to see was a few of them running around then one jump onto a droid tank and blow it up. i really wanted to see them fight as an army. also, oda once again kicked ass, especially when he felt that the clones were going to assasinate him and he chopped their heads off just in teh nick of time
Okay, so how exactly would you have played out a real plot with 6 foot teddy bears, robot soldiers, the fall of democracy, a green acrobatic rat, and the apparent turning of one who was suppose to be Jesus into a Damian?
I can't watch them anymore. I can barely keep a straight face during the Obi-Wan vs Vader fight anymore. It looks soooo bad. I understand that in 1977 it was huge. I also understand why anyone over 40 says it can't be touched. But you guys have to understand why those of us under 40 don't feel the same way. We weren't there... sorry... The change might have been huge for you guys, but for us its standard. We didn't expierence the change from Pre to Post Star Wars. We only know of Post to Post Post Star Wars. That's like hating on a 13 year old for buying a White Strips album over a Beatles album.
what does 40 have to do with anything? and because yu have no appreciation for the originals which without there would have been no Anakin story
You are very mistaken. I have a lot of respect for the originals. I loved the originals. I thought they were amazing. However when the newer ones came out the change was fasinating. Compared to the change that took place when the A New Hope came out in '77 it wasn't big at all, but I (along with many others) never experience that change so we therefore do not have that comparison. We can't sit back and say "Eh... the orignal Star Wars had a far deeper impact on me and was way better." becuase that statement simply wouldn't be true. Your "great change in film history" is our "standard and basic".
DV: "You turned her against me!!" Obi-Wan: "You have done that yourself." DV: "You will not take her from me!!" Obi-Wan: "Your anger and lust for power have already done that." ----- Obi-Wan: "I have failed you Anikan... I have failed you." DV: "I should've known the Jedi were plotting to take over." Obi-Wan: "Anikan, Chansellor Palpatine is evil!" DV: "From my point of view the Jedi are evil." Obi-Wan: "THEN YOU ARE LOST!" *chills*
As a pre fathers day gift I got the Ep 4-6 on DVD the other day. I hadnt gotten them on DVD yet so I now own all 6 on DVD. Of course I immediately put A New Hope on to start from the beginning. Only got through where Luke takes Obi Wan to Mos Eisley before the family came home, but it was great to watch it again. My daughter will be watching it with me next time.
just read in the NY POST page 50 Lou Lumeneck reported about the Superman movie at the IMAX theater was in 3D for 18 minutes. well at the end of the article he reports the Star Wars movie will be coming back in 3D in the near future. So keep a lookout for the release date.
I hope this makes sense, but ANH is the best pure movie (and as statjeff22 said the cultural and cinematic significance is unparalleled), but ESB is the best in chapter in the series. (Revenge of the Sith just started on HBO2). So, viewing it as a series, this is the order: 1) ESB 2) ANH 3) ROTJ 4) ROTS 5) AOTC 6) TPM The gap between 2 and 3 is HUGE. Also, TPM is the worst by a wise margin. What is really disappointing about the prequel trilogy is that there is some really good stuff in there lost among the bad dialogue and douche-chill moments. In TPM, the pod race (of you ignore Anikan) and Darth Maul/Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan battle are really good. In AOTC, the last 30 minutes are as good as anything in anything in any SW movie...but the C3PO moments mixed in are horrendous. ROTS has many good moments, but it suffers from too much bad baggage from the other two. With regard to the original question about Obi-Wan...difficult question to answer it is. Calling someone an "average Jedi" is like calling someone an average member of MENSA. You have to be outstanding to be in the order. However, clearly Yoda is the best-of-the-best. You can also make a case the Mace Windu would have killed Darth Sidious had Anikan not butted in, thereby making him an elite Jedi (if he wasn't already). Obi-Wan's extended exile made him a more powerful Jedi, because he was able to more deeply study the ways of the force. With regard to luck, among those schooled in the ways of the force, there is no luck. All is predestined. It happens as it must. Obi-Wan trains Anikan because he must train Anikan. Obi-Wan survives the Jedi purge because he must survive. And Obi-Wan dies, because he must die. "Do, or do not. There is no try." DbJ
