In the licensing game Star wars is the new Frozen but with an Adult market . Unlike Frozen where Disney under estimated the demand and chose the wrong female character to promote , hopefully Starwars has been better planned.
The more I watch the trailer the more it looks like it's going to be a young adult series of movies. I guess all the Star Wars movies are all ages movies (more or less) it just looks like it's going to be completely predictable in its story and flow.
Guess I missed the memo, how did Disney promote the wrong character? Seems like they promoted the hell out of everything and are printing billions to this day
The customer ie little girl , wanted the other girl stuff. Frozen was first disney movie with 2 girl heroes let alone one. From what i hear , product going into disney shops was snapoed up and sold on ebay. ( parents will understand)There were ballots to get into shops when new stock came. Demand for star wars stuff is massive here in Oz.
There was two female protagonists (Elsa and the brunette one). Disney banked on the other one being the fan favorite but Queen Elsa went EPIC. Their merchandising was not prepared to handle the shift especially since they were hesitant going into the movie (not sure if the classic Disney style would play in a Pixar world).
Stop it man ur driving all the gurls away from the forum. We should be talking about lost light sabers and Ewoks.
All the merchandise was bought up, regardless of character. Disney, their licensees and retailers simply under estimated the demand for the brand, not either of the two heroines. Of course, there is nothing unreasonable about not projecting it was going to be one the biggest animated film of all time. And this was hardly classic Disney style. It actually went into production in traditional cel animation Disney style, but switched to the modern CG because that is where the market is. And it isn't as if this was their first big hit outside of Pixar. A little movie called Tangled preceded it.
No, Star Wars is not the new Frozen. Star Wars is the original film merchandising juggernaut that all properties have attempted to emulate since. This isn't the first Star Wars film, or the first to be accompanied by a massive merchandise program. It is simply the first under Disney and their massive merchandise and retail reach.
Is this supposed to support your previous statement? It doesn't. You didn't argue that Star Wars would outsell Frozen this year, you claimed from in licensing Star Wars was somehow mimicing or following a sales model and demand that belonged to Frozen only forbafulrs. That's simply not true. Star Wars has always been what it is in licensing. Frozen was the girls Star Wars in licensing would be accurate. Star Wars is the new Star Wars in licensing.
I don't know how much more merchandising they can sell for Star Wars that hasn't already been sold. They'll make money but I don't see how it can surpass frozen which was a totally new brand that kids had nothing of to begin with
