In my opinion, Empire Strikes Back was the best. Why?

    Prepare for nerdisms:

    1. The tauntaun is the coolest animal I have ever seen.
    2. The Super-class Star Destroyer is FINALLY unveiled. (Trivia: It was named the Executor and was Vaders flag ship)
    3. The Hoth Speeders were complete pwnage with their blaster cannons..that is, until they met the AT-AT walkers.
    4. The land war scenes were awesome. "Imperial troops have entered the base! Imperial troops have entered the base!" Luke even used his lightsaber to chuck a thermal detonator into the AT-AT. Pwnage.

I LOVE Han Solo's YT-1300 (Millenium Falcon). You really got a good look on how those things are wired and armed in ESB. Although his was modified to be a bitch to run down (smuggling reasons), it is still effectively my dream car.

Also, gotta love Luke's reaction to meeting Yoda.

Yisman, the prophecy referred to the Chosen One as he who saves the Jedi from the most powerful Dark Lord of the Sith. You didn't have a very powerful DLoS before Vader, now did you? Therefore, Luke is the Chosen One.

Hmmm, I know that from somewhere. That Anakin was told that Sidious WAS the apprentice who murdered his master.

I think it was in the book, but not in the movie.

I agree totally. 1-3 was just fitting it all in so it would make sense with the last episodes.

He invented Vaapad, which feeds off of the Dark Side. But you must be very strong to use Vaapad and not fall to the Dark Side.

So, who's going to buy it?

This September: Original Unaltered Trilogy on DVD
    May 03, 2006

Fans can look forward to a September filled with classic Star Wars nostalgia, led by the premiere of LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy video game and the long-awaited DVD release of the original theatrical incarnations of the classic Star Wars trilogy.
In response to overwhelming demand, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release attractively priced individual two-disc releases of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered version of the movie and, as bonus material, the theatrical edition of the film. That means you'll be able to enjoy Star Wars as it first appeared in 1977, Empire in 1980, and Jedi in 1983.
See the title crawl to Star Wars before it was known as Episode IV; see the pioneering, if dated, motion control model work on the attack on the Death Star; groove to Lapti Nek or the Ewok Celebration song like you did when you were a kid; and yes, see Han Solo shoot first.

This release will only be available for a limited time: from September 12th to December 31st. International release will follow on or about the same day. Each original theatrical version will feature Dolby 2.0 Surround sound, close-captioning, and subtitles in English, French and Spanish for their U.S. release. International sound and subtitling vary by territory.

"Over the years, a truly countless number of fans have told us that they would love to see and own the original version that they remember experiencing in theaters," said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts and Senior Vice President of Lucasfilm Ltd. "We returned to the Lucasfilm Archives to search exhaustively for source material that could be presented on DVD. This is something that we're very excited to be able to give to fans in response to their continuing enthusiasm for Star Wars. Topping it off with a new interactive adventure makes September 12 a red-letter day for Star Wars fans."

That's also the day fans will be able to experience the LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy video game, the action-packed sequel -- filled with tongue-in-cheek humor -- to one of the best selling video games of 2005. To see the trailer to the new game from LucasArts and TT Games,

I had Lego Star Wars II on preorder like 2 months ago. We are picking it up for the kids tomorrow.

I won't lie and say I didn't play the first one all the way through. My brother came by a few weeks after we got it for the kids, and we played all day and night until we beat the whole thing. It was great.

I will be playing the new one as soon as I can rip the controller out of my 10 year old's hands!

    ABOUT THIS BOOK

Once the Sith order teemed with followers. But their rivalries divided them in endless battles for supremacy. Until one dark lord at last united the Sith in the quest to enslave the galaxy?and exterminate the Jedi. Yet it would fall to another, far more powerful than the entire Brotherhood of Darkness, to ultimately realize the full potential of the Sith, and wield the awesome power of the dark side as never before.

Since childhood, Dessel has known only the abuse of his hateful father and the dangerous, soul-crushing labor of a cortosis miner. Deep in the tunnels of the desolate planet Apatros, endlessly excavating the rare mineral valued throughout the galaxy, Dessel dreams of the day he can escape?a day he fears may never come. But when a high-stakes card game ends in deadly violence, Dessel suddenly finds himself a wanted man.

On the run from vengeful Republic forces, Dessel vanishes into the ranks of the Sith army, and ships out to join the bloody war against the Republic and its Jedi champions. There, Dessel?s brutality, cunning, and exceptional command of the Force swiftly win him renown as a warrior. But in the eyes of his watchful masters, he is destined for a far greater role in the ultimate Sith plan for the galaxy?if he can prove himself truly worthy.

As an acolyte in the Sith academy, studying the secrets and skills of the dark side at the feet of its greatest masters, Dessel embraces his new Sith identity: Bane. However the true test is yet to come. In order to gain acceptance into the Brotherhood of Darkness one must fully surrender to the dark side through a trial by fire that Bane, for all his unquenchable fury and lust for power, may not be strong enough to endure . . . especially since deception, treachery, and murder run rampant among the Sith disciples, and utter ruthlessness alone is the key to survival. Only by defying the most sacred traditions, rejecting all he has been taught, and drawing upon the long-forgotten wisdom of the very first Sith can Bane hope to triumph?and forge from the ashes of that which he must destroy a new era of absolute dark power.

The Darth Bane one is of interest because there has been talk of him for a long time. It would be nice to read his story now. Most of the books I have read are really well written and enjoyable. It continues the story along nicely. Ive had no complaints

Thanks for the heads up Murrell. My kids have been talking about Darth Bane for a while now. I had no idea who he was. I'll have to pick up a copy of that one.

3&15, please don't tell me you think the Dragonlance novels by Weis and Hickman are crap. Then we have to fight, and I don't want to bloody my keyboard.

I loved Chronicles and Legends when I was a kid but they lost me after that. I haven't attempted to read any of the newer ones because I'm pretty sure I would hate them.

I've read quite a few. I've gone through Chronicles and Legends 3 times. I've read War of Souls twice. Second Generation once. Summer Flame 3 times. Soulforge 3 times.

I also read Amber and Ashes last year (1st of the newest Weis trilogy. "Modern" times in DL setting.) I'm waiting for the paperback of the second one Amber and Iron.

Weis and Hickman have also teamed up to write the "unwritten" stories during the War of the Lance. 1 will focus on the search for the Hammer of Kharas. The next will focus on Dragonlord Kitiara and Soth. And the last will be about Raistlin's fall to the black robes. I'm excited about that.

The biggest DL news though is that there is a movie coming next year. I don't know if you've seen the new DL comics, but those artists are doing the animation for it. (It's not live-action, but a CGI-2d hybrid that is supposedly going to rock.) Playing Raistlin is Keifer Sutherland. Tanis is being done by the guy who plays Lex Luthor on Smallville. Goldmoon is being voiced by Lucy Lawless.

As sad as it is, I am 31 years old, and I still buy DL novels, and D&D campaign source material (that I don't even use.) I do play D&D Minis (a fairly new product.) I'm such a D&D geek.

Oh, BTW: I STILL have not been allowed to touch Lego:Star Wars II yet. I have to sit on my computer while the kids play and just taunt me.

Raistlin was about as 10x as cool and interesting as anyone in that series had any right to be. The rest of the characters are pretty much standard cutout stereotypes of "fantasy" types. Once he was out of the story it lost steam. I'm pretty sure I read the war of the souls but I can't remember what it was even about.

I will watch the movie, and Keifer Sutherland as Raistlin is a great casting. He certainly has the raspy voice down. I think animation is the way to go on stuff like this, as long as it's not completely ridiculous and horrible like the old Lord of the Rings cartoons.

If you like the Dragonlance books you should check out some of the old Song of Ice and Fire threads we have on here. I can't see anyone that enjoys fantasy not liking those books

Raistlin was one of the greatest characters ever put on paper. And to think, it was all because when Weis, Hickman, and their friends were playtesting DL, the guy who was playing Raist made the voice, and a legend was born. Weis says she immediately fell in love with the character and claimed him as her own.

If you had read the War of Souls, you would probably remember. The final book of the the trilogy only came out like 3 years ago. If you don't recall the name Mina, you never read them.

Sutherland blew everyone away when he was announced. It was one of those stunned silence things, then everyone was like "Oh HELL YEAH!"

The animation is not going to be anything like the old LotR stuff. If you get a chance, check out DevilsDue.net. That's the publisher of the comic. They're currently in the subscription cycle for Winter's Night. The artwork is the same that is supposed to be used in the film.

I've never read the Fire and Ice books. I've been such a D&D fan for so long that I don't know much of anything else. (When I was young I was reading those Choose Your Own Adventure style game books. Things like Wizards, Warriors & You, GrailQuest, the actual D&D gamebooks, etc.)

So how many true geeks do we have on this site? There are times when I feel like geeking out, but then I think "Well, this is a football site, so chances of most people being geeks is slim." So I head over to Wizards of the Coast's website and go on those message boards.
