I'd imagine if we really wanted him we'd have signed him already. Probably only offered a chance to compete in camp.
He isn't slow. His problem is with play recognition and maybe acceleration in keeping up with tight ends out of their breaks.
YB is getting old and is not the player he was even 2 years ago. Always strong in run support but his coverage skills were never that strong and have deteriorated the last couple of years. He got screwed by Ireland on the way out the door and I would like to see him land with a good team, but not in the division. I think he can still contribute but not as an every down player.
New reports that the JETS and EAGLES have made Bell the same exact offer. It is now up to him to decide where he wants to play.
I don't get why people are so down on this move. Do you all think Landry is gonna play a full 16 games this year? He would be a nice insurance policy if LL goes down.
Bell isn't an every down player anymore. He's TERRIBLE in coverage. We already have one of those. We don't need another.
The point is, Yeremiah Bell + LaRon Landry = full season at SS. Neither can play 16 games full. Does that justify signing? I don't know. He's terrible still.
I totally see the point, I just don't think he's worth whatever money he's going to command. I feel like one of our rook safeties or even an unsigned FA could do for us in spurts what Bell would, for most likely less than half the price.
Smith is the insurance policy, We don't need another veteran SS. We need a dependable durable proven FS. I believe that's where the angst with this move stems from. Not that it's a terrible pickup, more that it's filling a need we don't have anymore.
