Perfecto! Thanks for proving my point. The job of the media is NOT to blow smoke or massage someone's ego but to report what has occurred, warts and all.
If the bulletin board material stuff works someone get a hold of Kyle Wilson and have him read has been written about him on this board.
Why do people keep citing Allen and Milliner coming back as if we getting back Deon Sanders and Darelle Revis? Double AA is one of my favorite favorite players on this team and I expect Milliner to take steps this year, but the reality is the former is couple years removed from being a hybrid LB and the latter was hot garbage 3/4th of last season. Lastly, any sentence that ends with "...Wilson, how is it so bad?" should be double checked for sarcasm.
While I agree with the overall premise that Rex's teams tend to play to the level of their competition, citing that we've beaten NE more than any other team in the NFL is not really a good example of this. Most teams play their division opponents tough. You play them twice every year, there shouldn't be any surprises.
I agreee...we're going 10-6 and winning the division. Ugly baby's ...I was an ugly baby. Look at me now...I'm gorgeous.
Great post. Living in Chicago I made some good money off people that did not follow the Jets as closely as I did and simply followed the national meme. Like lemmings everyone I know here thought the Jets would be the worst team in the NFL. I made close to $1K betting them the Jets would win more than 7 games. While I knew the roster was void of named skilled players or fantasy football draftees I knew we were good in the trenches on both sides of the ball. I knew our roster was better than the year before and our defense would keep us in enough games to yield 7-9 wins out of a relatively weak schedule. The funny thing is that this year our roster is even better yet I'm not looking to make any bets.
I think Milliner is going to be pretty good. But he still has to go out there and prove it first. I'm a big fan of Allen's as well but your right. Expecting him to be a CB after switching from SAM LB in college to safety his first couple years in the NFL, to CB now is asking a lot. I'm not saying he can't do it, but it would be a surprise to me if he was overly effective in year 1. I've always liked Walls since I saw him play in the preseason last year but once again, he's another guy who, for the most part, is untested. He's never started over any length of significant time. He had a 3 game stretch last year where he played significant snaps, other then that he's mostly just been a backup. I'm not saying Walls or Allen can't do it but they are question marks at best right now. Milliner, to be fair, is a question mark as well. We haven't seen him sustain success over a full season. He's not a proven commodity. Besides the final month of the season (where he played very well) he struggled last year. At this point Wilson is what he is, which isn't much. I'm not saying the Jets should have gone out and threw big money at a corner because I actually like the way Idzik is running this team. I think the Jets have been very unlucky at the CB spot this off season with the injuries and the unexpected AWOLs and what not. But not being concerned about the CB position heading into the season is a little bit silly to me.
that's some textbook bias from that writer, makes me want to be sure to never give a click to that site again. Johnson hasn't been the biggest team guy in the world in his past but I doubt he takes the team apart with his attitude. Not sure how his involvement will lead to a 1st overall pick caliber season, he may just be an average RB, but its not like he's the only guy we can relay on from the RB corps. And Vick? not sure how the hell he quit on the Eagles. Theres been no signs of him begin a cancer here or in his time in Philly, so that seems to be coming directly from the writers ass.
Funny thing is even if we took Revis back, you could add: "And to be honest, we're not certain what we can get out of Revis this year either. Last year was a recovery year for him and he played cover 2 in Tampa. I don't really know how good he's going to be playing tough man 2 man on his 30 year old surgically repaired knee"
I posted this in another thread but I think it belongs here as well. Remember everyone in our division plays the same opponents and crazier shit has happened. Below are our opponents records over the past two seasons. I think our season depends on how strong we finish within our division, of which we are capable of going 4-2. Then I can fairly say- Oakland - 2012: 4-12, 2013: 4-12 = Win 1-0 Even Without our full secondary Green Bay - 2012: 11-5, 2013: 8-7-1 = Loss 1-1 Pack Back to 2012 Form Chicago - 2012: 10-6, 2013: 8-8 = Loss 1-2 Tight Loss At home to a mediocre team Detroit - 2012: 4-12, 2013: 7-9 = Win 2-2 Tight Win topping a mediocre team San Diego - 2012: 7-9, 2013: 9-7 =Loss 2-3 Tight Loss to another mediocre team Denver - 2012: 13-3, 2013: 13-3 =Loss 2-4 Bad goes Badder New Eng - 2012: 12-4, 2013: 12-4 = Loss 2-5 Bad goes Rock Bottom Buffalo - 2012: 6-10, 2013: 6-10 = Win 3-5 A Stumbling Bills team a relief Kansas City - 2012: 2-14, 2013: 11-5 =Win 4-5 KC continues bad end to 2013 Season Pittsburgh - 2012: 8-8, 2013: 8-8 = Win 5-5 Finally get the best of a mediocre team BYE - Not bad at .500 and weathered da storm Buffalo - 2012: 6-10, 2013: 6-10 = Win 6-5 A great team to run on after the Bye Miami - 2012: 7-9, 2013: 8-8 = Loss 6-6 A Heartbreaker at Home Minnesota- 2012: 10-6, 2013: 5-10-1 = Win 7-6 A whooping of Sota gets team pumped Tennessee - 2012: 6-10, 2013: 7-9 = Win 8-6 C2k has something to prove New Eng - 2012: 12-4, 2013: 12-4 = Win 9-6 First of paybacks are a bitch Miami - 2012: 7-9, 2013: 8-8 = Win. 10-6 Second of paybacks are bitchier 10-6 Season and Possible Wild Card This is very very capable of happening!! Super Bowl .. Hey anything is possible riding a late season hot streak .. Ask that other NY Team. Realistically I can see the record and a Wild Card Berth happening but we are still another draft and a few cap rollovers away from something special. I do hope Rex is around as I think we need that special brand of D he brings!
The Jets have a chance this year to have their best team since 1998. It's just a chance and it depends on some very swingy variables (Geno Smith, Dee Milliner, Chris Johnson, Damon Harrison and Brian Winters primarily) however the chance is there. I'm not ready to say the Jets are going to the AFC Championship Game again but I'm also pretty sure that 8-8 is the floor barring a serious injury run.
Walter Football is a Pats Homie Site. They will always trash the Jets if they can. In his post draft power rankings he had the Giants 31 and the Jets 30...
So, if I read this right he's saying this year is going to be 2012 all over again basically. And that CJ's a worse team man than Santonio and that Geno/Vick is going to be worse than Sanchez/Tebow... and that we have less talent than 2012 (not to mention last year presumably). How did we finish in 2012 again, oh, we won 6 games and that included having Revis injured for virtually the whole season and Tony Sparano as OC. Yeah, we're going to be worse than that...
True, the facts don't equal the perception. I would have thought, before checking, that the Jets probably had been a losing team in half of their seasons since 1997. One thing that hurts them, in my opinion is the fact that they are only one of 5 NFL teams not to have made it to a SB since the merger, grouped in with the likes of Detroit and Cleveland.
