And we've beaten 3 teams that ALL have losing records & have a total of NINE wins combined this season 1 shy of our total for the year...I don't see your point...it's ok to rank us over the pats because we've beaten "better" teams than they have??? I still think a depleted steelers team & Colts team are better than a healthy Lions or Texans team. We'll be able to put this all to rest in 2 weeks, hopefully Rex can get the D playing up to speed & our running game starts running the way it was built to run, & Mark just keeps improving, then we can walk the walk & talk the talk.
My point is that I'm sick of hearing Jets fans ogle over the Patriots like they're some great team. It's disgusting. People want to talk about how they've been OOOOOOOOOO so impressive. Why? Because they got absolutely shellacked by the Browns? Because they beat an injury riddled Steelers team that refuses to adjust to how the Pats play offense? Because they beat the Colts with half there practice squad at receiver/TE? Fuck the Patriots. I can't wait to stomp them again in 2 weeks so I don't have to read this awful shit anymore from Jets fans.
I agree w/you I would love to beat them (especially @ home & break brady's streak) so there is no question who the better team is this year, hopefully w/in 2 weeks we can get our shit together & play (like Rex like to call it) a JET.
You can say what you want, but the Patriots' last two wins were against two of the best teams in the AFC. And in both games they were dominate at times, perhaps most of the time. If it were us, I'm sure everyone here would talk it up just the same. That said, I agree they're over hyped ATM, and the loss to the Browns should be the only needed reference as to why. With the way Sanchez has begun keeping his eyes downfield consistently the last few weeks, and my expectation that Rex will light a fire under the defense's collective asses, I'm more than confident we'll be 10-2 coming out of week 13. Either way, I can't wait to see the heavy-weight bout thus far of 2010. :jets:
Actually, they wore black and gold, with a man named Roethlisberger behind center. (Brady missed '08.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_New_England_Patriots_season#Schedule
I am sure I hate the Patriots as much as you do. And yes, ranking them high is problematic at the least given their awful loss to the Browns and that the Steelers hardly showed up for that game. They barely beat the Colts, and imo were lucky to do so. But as much as I insist on a week by week, game by game approach to the season, everyone knows the game a week from Monday is huge. It will settle much of the arguments being made here, at least more than is settled now. And to address your point I certainly hope the Jets win that game. But am I sure they will? Not really. More to the point, though, we can wait until after the Bungles game to talk about that one. Or should, imvho.
To be honest I can see why people would go with the Pats or the Jets at #1, but when I read about Jets fans complaining that the Pats should be #1 when the Jets are ranked #1 gets under my skin. The Steelers are not as good as they were early in the season. They are missing A LOT of guys in the trenches. The Colts are also pretty beat up. So yea, they're two playoff contending teams, but the Pats caught them at the right time. I wish people would stop sucking on there hind tit, especially Jets fans.
The key phrase that you missed was "at this point", meaning "NOW" NOT something that occurred NINE WEEKS ago.
People also forget the ass whooping the Texans put on the 100% healthy Colts to open the season. There is more parity in the league than ever, Detroit could easily be 7-3 if you just take away a play or two, same with the Browns. It's those plays that make the difference between a 10-6/9-7 record to a 7-9/6-10 record. The Browns beat the Pats because they ran them over using the same model we did. They are equipped to beat them, the inured Colts were not, and the Steelers defense was a shell of its former self.
not to mention the Steelers (particularly their oline) was pretty banged up.....The Patriots D took full advantage of that. The Patriots are severely overrated by the sports media pundits.....and that's fine....I don't want the Jets to rest on their laurels....I want them going into the playoffs with a chip on their shoulders
I think a lot of fans around here still have Patriots paranoia and have vivid memories of the Jets getting owned by New England for the better part of the last decade. We need to turn the tables, psychologically, and realize that from here on out WE are the shit. We're the ones that own this division, and the conference. I think that's one thing Rex has done very well since he got here, is change the culture from that of a conservative, malaise one (see: Herm Edwards and Mangini) to one that's fun, self-assured and dominant. You think like a winner, you'll be a winner. That's the one thing the SOJ never did against the Pats all those years - they played to not get rolled over, rather than playing to win.
I understand the Jets are tied with the best record at 8-2, but we still only have 1 win over a team with a winning record. We may be the best team, but until we get wins over The Pats (again) and/or Steelers, I don't have a problem with people thinking the Pats should be higher.
