Per Walterfootball which cited Cimini, the Jets don't have an interest in Floyd. With how deep the 2012 WR class is, I think there's some legs to that story. From all accounts, we're drafting a olb/de passrusher.
This whole "how deep the draft is at WR" shit is beyond annoying. Floyd is a 1st rounder for a reason, because he is simply better than other WRs. I would take Floyd any day of the week over any of these WRs (besides Blackmon). If we didnt have interest he wouldnt have visited.
100% spot on outside of besides Blackmon but both should be studs. I am tired of the whole belief that what we will get in the later rounds will be as equal if not the same as round 1. Guys go in the early rounds for a reason folks. I can say that we need to skip on Melvin Ingram in round 1 to get Ronnell Lewis in round 2/round 3 by using the "This draft is deep" talk.
I think the point is that since the class is deep at WR, the Jets have the luxury of using their 1st rounder on another position while getting good value at the WR position in rounds 2-4. Clearly Floyd is a better prospect than guys like Jeffery, Sanu, Hill, etc.
I love Michael Floyd, but I would certainly be happy to draft a guy like Ingram in the first, then grab Jeffery in the second. I know some people aren't too high on Jeffery because of his speed and his weight, but he has great hands and pulls down everything.
I dont think you're in the minority, most would love a draft of Ingram and Jeffery, but the chances of both falling to us in rounds 1 and 2 are slim to none.
While I understand that, passing up Floyd to only hope for a good Wr in Rounds 2-3 just isn't a smart move. When value is there you take it and run. We need a player like Floyd and can't risk anything this draft.
BakerMaker saying Floyd is the best WR prospect in this draft? I'm in shock, hahaha. Blackmon is my number 3 prospect in this draft, simply because his bust potential is so low and his skillset is so high. I hate when I hear he is overrated, while he did have somewhat inflated numbers, Weeden wasnt exactly that great of a QB.
Ha! I thought the same exact thing when I saw the title of this thread. All the "amazing" footage of him stretching out to catch balls. Unfortunately, those studies dont help you get open.
If you believe Floyd will be a top receiver in the NFL, then you go and get him. I've seen enough of him to believe that he will be a top receiver in this league. Don't underestimate how much a top receiver means to a QB. We need to stop trying to cut corners on offense and actually bring in some premium talent.
I don't think I agree. We are not looking for a #1 WR in this draft, we already have that guy in, Holmes. To me it would be silly to draft a WR at the #16 spot when WR isn't the most pressing need for us. I don't think it's smart to draft your #2 receiver at #16, especially with a run heavy offense. Waiting till the second round is not a bad play for where the talent will ultimately fall for WR. Now, if he is the BPA at #16 then they should draft him. He would be a great fit in our offense for the skill set he brings to the table. I like Floyd a lot as well, I just think the Jets have a lot more plays in their hand than, Floyd.
Floyd fits the role of what we need in a #1 or #2, I dont care which numbered WR he is, all I know is that he fits perfectly in this offense. A tall, fast WR, who can block, has great hands, and can go over the middle. If we want to improve our QB we need to upgrade our #2 WR, hell whats so bad about having Holmes and Floyd? Frankly, I dont want to wait till rounds 2 or 3 to get a WR (if Floyd is there). The only way I move out of that pick is if a team like the Broncos or Browns want to trade up for Floyd and give us one of their seconds. Basically what I am trying to get across is, if a sure thing (or close to it) is there you take him and run, I don't want to regret passing up on a great player.
I don't care where we select him either, if we were to select him because he would be a great player for us in a lot of different ways. I think he can be a true number one myself. I'm just torn on how stacked the WR depth is in this draft, it is very deep in my opinion and I think that we could afford to splurge outside the box in the first round. There is no such thing as a sure thing with draft prospects though, everyone is capable of becoming a bust, just like any one of these wide receivers could get the proper coaching and surprise everyone like Colston did for the Saints.
I just cant justify passing on a potentially great player. I wouldnt mind taking a WR later on, I would just cringe if we skipped Floyd, we'd regret that decision. We could always take a WR in rounds 2 or 3 but is there any guarantee they can be as good as Floyd? That is a tough gamble. And Thats what it all comes down to, value and need, usually the Jets dont skip on that. Example: Kyle Wilson. The Jets had Revis and Cro yet still took Wilson because his value was so great at 29. If Floyd is there, especially with us having no #2, I could see him as the pick at 16. He provides insurance as well as turning an area of weakness to an area of strength. I realize I am stating the obvious reasons but I just dont see the argument for taking him being that intricate
Holmes is a number 1 but he isnt elite, Floyd has the chance of being elite and thats why you pick him
2011: 62nd Yards, 62nd Receptions 2010: 42nd Yards, 56th Receptions 2009: 7th Yards, 16th Receptions 2008: 38th Yards, 49th Receptions 2007: 28th Yards, 56th Receptions 2006: 32nd Yards, 62nd Receptions Holmes finished top 20 in receptions and top 20 in yards once in his six year career when he was the #2 guy behind Hines Ward and had Roethlisberger consistently extending plays for him allowing him to get lost in the defense. Holmes doesn't have the resume of a #1 NFL WR. His production drastically dropped when we lost our #1 WR last year and Holmes was forced into the #1 role for the first time in his career. I don't believe he is a #1 WR.
