I was thinking that Houston could take Bridgewater and the Jets could sign SChaub as the token "veteran QB." He's no Tom Brady but with the right supporting cast he could be a safe QB.
I'm just pointing out that Jadaveon Clowney is the #1 prospect in this draft and the #2 team may not need a QB. They may not need a QB AND trade the pick but even that is hard to do reliably. Matt Ryan was certainly in consideration by the 1 and 2 teams in 2008 but he went 3rd. The Dolphins, who hadn't had a QB since Dan Marino retired passed him up and then the Rams who also needed a QB passed him up.
Washington seems like they will bomb with at best 4 wins on the year, would be shocked if they aren't in the top 5 or top 3. Sucks for them St. Louis has their pick. Only way the Jets can get Bridgewater is by trade and I think 5 wins is too much for the no.1 pick with teams like Houston, and Washington playing as bad as they are. Don't be shocked if St Louis gets the 1st pick via WSH and they have a contract tied with Bradford and may not give up on him and could trade down for a team hungry for Bridgewater or Clowney. Teams might jump Atlanta or Houston to get their guy. The Rams would be most willing to trade that pick, they'd be the team you'd want with the 1st pick if you really want Bridgewater or Clowney. STL- JAX- HOU- MIN- ATL- Probably your top 5. Can't see Jacksonville sweeping Houston in the season series. Big game this Thursday in the Bridgewater bowl. Houston and Jacksonville will probably each win an extra game getting them to 4 wins each. Skins are in such turmoil they might just lose out the rest of their games. Giving up the 1st pick might be the dagger in the Allen/Shanahan era in Snyder's eyes.
The Rams or the Falcons are probably our best bet if we wanted to trade up for Bridgewater. I highly doubt that we even would, but if we didnt have to give up a ton of picks I would be for it. It might cost this years 1st and next years. But if we were to really hit on this years draft, it could be worth it. When you find your franchise QB, everything else is easier. At this point, I could see 5 QBs being picked in the top 12-15. Bridgewater, Mariota (if he declares), Carr, Manziel and even McCarron. Realistically, I want David Carr. I would follow up the rest of the draft with WR/WR/TE. Davante Adams, Beckam, Cooks, Landry, Robinson in the 2nd would be nice. If somehow we could get 2 of them that would be even better. Its a deep WR class and QB class. We better take advantage of it.
No, you stay away from Derek Carr - you already wanted Geno Smith aka the plague. You have bad luck man. We should look at Fales as well. One of the more accurate QBs in college football.
Fales has a 5th round rating right now on cbs prospects. Id be cool with getting him and signing a fa qb to compete with Geno. Someone will come out the best and then we will have rounds 1-4 to address other positions to help the qb. Worst case scenario we have Jameis and Mariota to pick from next year
Dude has killer accuracy and anticipation - he is perfect for a WCO. Wait until the Senior Bowl, I think his status will rise to a 2nd or 3rd round grade. If he kills it, he could be a 1st round grade. No way does he stay in the 4th or 5th. And those stats I mentioned above, the Spartans don't exactly have NFL talent around him. Been watching this kid play since the BYU game. Who knows, I will continue to monitor his success at the collegiate level.
As frustrating as it is watching Geno, is bringing in a QB next year really the answer? Maybe it's just me, but I dont see any QB we bring in playing much better than we've seen Geno and Sanchez play. I think this is the year to bring in QB support and see how we play next year. Sign Maclin or Decker, Draft a WR and TE, and continue to bolster up the offensive line. Go into next year with Geno/Simms/FA Veteran (Maybe Schaub). If Geno continues to suck like he did this year you know what to address in the offseason. Edit: If we could get Fales in the fourth or fifth round, I'd be ok with that.
The texans are taking a QB. Mariota has said he is not entering the draft today. We could more likely see Teddy, Carr and Huntley gone before we pick.
Clowney is not a slam dunk #1 in the draft anymore. His motivation issues and him not playing QB drop him below Teddy.
I have bad luck because I liked a QB that was a bust? Did you like Sanchez, because he's a bust as well? People miss on prospects, I am only human. Im sure I can go back and find a player that you liked and now sucks. Plus, I like Carr a lot more than I liked Geno, fwiw. Please tell me why we shouldnt look at Carr, yet we should look at Fales?
