took me a while to finally give up on him being a decent person. hes passionate but just doesn't know how to deal with anyone who has a differing opinion
Isn't that all of us would've said about Blake Cashman and Sam Darnold? Don't underestimate the value of a LT with (theoretically) massive upside...in fact, I heard a rumor that Douglas has prepared a P.R. film to help him sell Becton called "The Upside". I'm not saying we should expect an Adams-like return for him, but if it's in the ballpark and depending on how they feel about his chances of reaching his potential don't be surprised if Douglas pulls this off.
i doubt lawson or davis gets cut. mosley to me is likely but who knows. either way we have plenty of cap for what we spend now and to spend some next year
Agreed about contention next year, but in order to get top guys and avoid this "Jets tax" we need to load up this year too. Next year Mosley comes off, Davis and Lawson can be gone if they are not producing, and we can restructure some deals. Saints are way over the CAP and still make big signings and somehow have enough CAP to get Watson if they want. We need to become relevant this year, and more signings will happen next year when we truly hopefully contend.
only way i'd move becton is for a larry tunsil like trade and I doubt that happens. cause then we could take neal or okwanu at 4, an edge at 10, and a WR with the extra 1st and have an extra 1st and 2nd again in 2023.
I think it may be more likely that he's a draft day trade. I don't think you move him until you see if Neal or Ekwonu are available at #4 or maybe Cross is available at #10. There may be a spot in the late 1st or early 2nd where a team believes a gamble on Becton outweighs the OT prospects on the board.
And yet, Tunsil did get traded, and IMO Becton might have more appeal to a team because he's younger and still on a rookie deal for 3 more years. But I'd consider taking less than Tunsil returned - not a lot less maybe - but like what we're talking about: a top WR or Edge.
I doubt Davis is a cap casualty but Lawson is 50/50 imo. Really depends on how good of a season he has, a 15m cap savings on him is juicy enough to at least think about. I wouldn’t do it unless the Jets were cash strapped but they wont be.
The Texans reportedly were disappointed with the offers they were getting for Tunsil. I will never be surprised by what JD does. #ExpectTheUnexpected
Tunsil got traded coming off 3 great years with his value extremely high - he was a lock to be a stud LT for years to come. Becton's value is low right now to the point where Jets are not saying he a starter over Fant and demanding he comes back in shape. He was out of shape last year and missed entire season due to injury. Right now is not the time to trade him because no one is giving a great offer. He needs to prove himself next year, and at that point, depending on the situation we might or might not trade him. But we do not want to trade when value is all time low. Unless we think it will be even lower next year, which I hope is not the case.
First, we don't know what, if any offers, JD has received, or might yet receive. Second, what if he shows up out of shape at OTAs, or has another poor training camp or season? Again, I'm not suggesting we "fire sale" him, only that if Douglas can get a proven player at a position of need - WR, Edge - he might consider taking it now.
Yes, IF we can get an equivalent of high first round pick/talent, sure we may consider. What my point is that such offer currently is unrealistic, because Becton's value right now is quite low. IF KT is gone, we can get Ekwomu at #4 and someone is offering top 15 pick for Becton, sure, we can consider. True, we don't know, and it is a speculation, but realistically I highly doubt anyone will though, given Becton's last season's struggles.
that is a good point. if he has a tough time coming back from the injury i could see a cut. but if he gets like 7-8 sacks and gets a good pressure rate I think we'll pay him. we don't need to clear cap room so it's more of as long as he earns it
well thats also because BoB was an awful GM who got raped on every trade and took a playoff team and made them a laughing stock. only way i'd trade becton is for 2 1sts and 1 of them in the top 20 this year plus a 2nd next year.
It's a big deal - there is a massive drop off between KT and the next guy. Probably need to prepare ourselves for it though.
i wouldn't say massive but there is a drop off for sure. I think jermaine johnson is very underrated and isn't that far behind KT. if we can land hamilton and johnson i'd be happy with that haul. only bad scenerio for me is if KT, hutch, and hamilton are the top 3 picks. I really hope jax doesn't fuck things up and they are smart and take o-line
