If it’s his best, do we reset the market for a guy who needs to be surrounded by talent to succeed? Pay fair market value or slightly higher. I’m not breaking the bank on Q
We can all agree we want the top talent. Sometimes the top talent is the 1st of the position off the board, sometimes it’s the 4th guy off the board. When I hear the analysts say “the top WRs and the top DEs aren’t as good as the tops from other classes but there’s a ton of quality depth to the class” - it makes me want to trade back, get 5-6 picks between 18-55 and some extra picks in 2023.
Agree. Fair market value is exactly what JD will strive for, but he commanded double coverage in a less than stellar D so yes, I would expect he will make real pass rushers much better, as well as himself, if the offenses have to worry about more than him in the pass rush.
Are we still waiting for this blockbuster trade to come to fruition, or has it passed us by? Was it Hill? Could it be Metcalf? Are we sending Michael Carter, or both Michael Carters, and the #10 pick to Indy for Jonathan Taylor? Or, maybe, just because a guy has a Twitter account, he's not really an expert or an insider at all. Paul Esden Jr.?
We DEFINITELY need a #1 receiver, I think Elijah will get banged up due to size, I like treylon Burks, because of his inside play that could free up Elijah on the outside. We need another solid WR for sure.
This ought to really set you off regarding the cap. After signing Wagner, the Rams still have almost $9 million in cap space.
Did anyone watch the jets defense last year? I say defense with both our round 1 picks. Usually I like OL, but we have invested #1 picks there the last 2 years. If we go WR in round 1 at 4 or more likely 10, does he start in 2022? We are paying Davis too much money to sit. Moore must start at the other WR. If you move Moore to slot, where does that leave Berrios? And what about the two pass receiving TEs the jets signed? I am all for a WR in round two, like maybe Watson from NDSU, but our pathetic defense needs two starters from round 1. Get the best DE, DT, LB safety or even CB. The jets absolutely got run over last year--when a retread like Duke Johnson on his 4th team has a career day against you, you better add some talent on that side of the ball.
It was bad too. The jets spent their first 4 draft picks last year on offense--time to address the defense on draft day, early and often.
Gotta disagree Tom. Not entirely...they DO need to add some serious quality to the "D", but that's also true for the "O" regardless of what they did las year. My bet is that JD splits the first 4 picks between both sides of the ball, but I'm not sure what order that happens - depends on how the board falls.
Well, CC, we are not that far apart. I'd like 3 of the top 4 picks on defense. Assuming Bechton comes back (a big if) I think the OL is not bad. The WRs and TEs are ok. We need another RB and have decent QB depth. But IMO we REALLY need help at LINEBACKER with Mosely about done and the rest of the group no-names. Our interior DL needs a stud next to Q unless you like guys like Rankins, Thomas and Shepard. Our pass rush need a boost. And for God's sake, don't play A. Davis one down at safety next year,. He takes terrible angles and could not tackle my 88 year old mother in law. I do think we need more depth at WR and RB and OT. But I want three day 1 starters from this draft--asking a lot I know, but the jets D needs a big infusion of talent. As you said, it depends on trades, the board, etc. But this is the watershed moment in Douglas's career. He needs to hit a home run.
I can mostly agree, but I think the IDL will come in the 3rd/4th rounds. I wouldn't be heartbroken if they took Lloyd with one of the first 4 picks, but I doubt they do that. I think maybe Harris from Alabama, or Muma from Wyoming could be targets, but in any case I agree they need to improve the LB room.
they did shed some talent though. they lost miller (which also cost them a 2nd and 3rd this year) and traded woods for cheap (6th rounder) to clear space. they also haven't brought back odell yet (but did sign robinson) so they really just kinda moved things around and keep the roster to a similar level it was at
