Did any of those receivers want to get traded? Marshall has Jeffrery he didn't wanna leave then. Jones and Roddy White? Maybe calling him a bad teammate is unfair, but why leave NO?

He hasn't come out and said he wants to get traded, Sean Payton said they would listen to offers. It's more to do with the fact the Saints are loaded at WR with tons of holes on Defense than anything else.

"I don’t think this is a case of the Saints trying to get rid of a “malcontent,” though.

    ESPN
"Although Cooks expressed his frustration with his role in the Saints’ offense last year – uttering the memorable line, “Closed mouths don’t get fed” – I think he generally has a good relationship with teammates and management. Cooks and Brees are especially close and live just down the street from one another in San Diego during the offseason."

    Sean Payton
“I wouldn’t say he’s on the trade block but certainly when a team calls, a team that’s looking for a receiver — and we’re looking to improve our defense — we’re always listening,”

Sheldon is not that good of a teamate either, and questionable off the field. So a trade there is excellent. We just need to protect the picks

I still don't see anything about Cooks complaining, asking to be traded, or being a bad teammate. Great players want the ball. That's not a crime unless it's like Keyshawn was. If Cooks is mostly being used as a decoy, who could blame him? He has given the Saints a lot of production and long TDs, and it looks like they're trying to squeeze him now, cut his production so they won't have to pay him as much. Brees throws a lot of passes, but he has a lot of targets. Mark Ingram has caught 29, 50 and 46 passes the last 3 years. Coby Fleener caught 50 passes in his first year with the Saints. Thomas caught 92 passes this season. Willie Sneed caught 69 and 72 passes, respectively, the last two seasons. Some of the other WRs, TEs and RBs probably caught passes too. Cooks' rookie season, the Saints still had Jimmy Graham catching a ton of passes (85), Kenny Stills (63), Pierre Thomas (45). Marques Colston (59), and Ben Watson (20). He's a great receiver and probably just wants to be respected and paid according to his production. Even if he has asked to be traded, I wouldn't blame him. I'd want to play somewhere where I was more the primary target. If he didn't have pride and want to be a big part of his team's success, I'd be a lot more worried about him.

So now you're saying that Cooks isn't a good WR and doesn't catch everything but Michael Thomas does? OK. I'm not gonna go back and look it up, but it sounds like you probably never liked Cooks in the first place.

I never said Cooks can't catch or he isn't a good wr. Where did I say that? I said the Saints don't view him as a clear number 1. Michael Thomas, I think is a better overall receiver.

I would do Sheldon for Cooks straight up but I am not giving up a 3rd rounder.

I would give up Sheldon and a third (basically the equivalent of two 3rds) for Cooks and not look back. 3rd round picks are a crap shoot and chances are neither turn out to be studs which Cooks is. Saints would never do it though because of how one sided it is.

They rejected a first rounder for him ... how in the hell are we gonna get him for Sheldon straight up if his market value is a late second to early third ... not to mention he wants a huge contract thanks but no thanks PS lots of us were pushing hard for him when WR was our biggest need and we drafted CP instead thanks Idzik

Instead of trying to throw my words back in my face, why don't you actually consider what I was saying? Naaaahh. That would take reflection and consideration that all of us here want the same thing: the Jets becoming a winning franchise. You're more interested in trying to win "points" on a forum.

Haha, nice. I have been a member of this forum since 2003 and have barely twice as many posts as you've put up in the last 12 months. I could care less about winning "points" on this forum. I read exactly what you said.

The speculation that we trade Sheldon and our third round compensatory pick should pretty well be put to rest.
The Saints are seeking a mid to early first round pick plus more picks in 2018 for Cooks. The reality is, Sheldon doesn't have much market value due to off the field issues as well as lack of production the past 2 seasons. Yes he played out of position and is better than he showed but other organizations, will use that to devalue his worth. Would you trade your first and a third or 4th (what ever Sheldon for Cooks should be the question.

I'd only do it if it was a straight up Richardson for Cooks deal. The Saints wouldn't do that most likely so, I doubt it happens. This may change should the Jets trade down in the draft for more picks, but I feel like this draft is super important, I'd prefer that they use the picks and not trade any.

  16. I'd certainly consider Cooks for Sheldon..but that's not really my ideal scenario. I'd much rather trade him for a package of early picks. a 2nd & 6th or 3rd & 5th..

As many others have mentioned I highly doubt Cooks would be happy here unless we're giving him a new contract & he wants the media market...which I suppose is always possible.

When I said I wouldn't add our 2nd with SR to get Cooks, i meant our draft picks are just too valuable right now during a draft-first rebuild. I really think we need a top WR to pair with our young stable, it wouldn't be a 'luxury'. If we don't get a top WR in FA, then we should definitely keep Eric Decker. But i wouldn't give up our 2nd.

They are looking for a package of picks starting with at least a mid first this year and more picks next year. I'm sure the picks next year would depend on how high this year's first is. But still alot to give up for a team in full rebuild for a player with 1 year remaining on his contract. Could be 2, I'm not sure how the rules work regarding the option year of a traded player.

We certainly could use the kind of explosive playmaker Cooks represents. However, based on reports, he seems to be a bit of a malcontent, and when his receptions plummet in our offense, with our prospective quarterback play, I doubt he'll be a happy camper and be willing to re-sign.
