I don't disagree with your assessment of need NC. We definitely need a TE badly, and Cook would be a tremendous addition as wide receiver, specially if we let Decker walk, although I tend to think with our QB situation a more physical, big WR might even be better. Breese is the master of timing and pin point passes and was a perfect match for Cook. We don't have that luxury. But my concern is that I really don't want to give up picks. Throw in a Pryor/SR combo and I would be thrilled for Cook to be a Jet. We just have way too many holes to fill, and we have squandered way too many picks over the last bunch of years which has gotten us literally no where. Having said that, with our new OC, Cook might be what he wants, although I think the Eagles will over bid for him. Lets see what free agency does for us. I tend to think we will not overspend for a super stud, but will make a few key moves with the money we have after all the cuts are made.
I would love to trade Sheldon straight up for Cooks, or for any other young, top talent on either side of the ball. Trading our backup lineman for a talented started ANYWHERE on the team is a win for us. But I would rather trade SR straight up for a 3rd round draft pick than to trade him AND our 2nd for Cooks.
Cooks version of great is actually just good given who is throwing to him and the offense he plays in.
Cooks is a luxury for this team. We don't have a QB who can reliably get him the ball, and we could get an excellent WR in the late rounds of this draft. But if we add the QB we need, and the elite RB or TE, then we're probably ok with the WRs we have already. If the Saints took Richardson 1 for 1, I'd do it, but wouldn't give up any picks for him.
A 3rd and Richardson for Cooks is great for us. People saying we should trade Richardson for a third instead I'm just not getting. So you wouldn't trade 2 3rd round picks for Cooks? I understand we need to build through the draft but those 3rd round picks are far from gauranteed starters. As a matter of fact I guarantee we whiff on one. Decker has proven he is not a 1,so who is? Anderson? Peake? Enunwa?
Because picks are so important right. "You don't win any prizes for having the most draft picks. Drafts picks only represent potential not actual value. Given how often teams miss - especially the Jets - means you can't count on them reproducing their college success and building on it. And the farther you drop in the round, the more chance of missing." Sound familiar
Wow. Rather have a 3rd rounder than Cooks. Guess I've lost my mind since everyone seems to disagree with me.
If we can get a 3rd for Sheldon, it would be awesome! I'm not sure what, if anything, we might get for him. The one thing that gives me some hope is that there is always some NFL team who will take a chance on a troubled player who is very talented. It's not just a matter of adding a WR. WRs in the draft are only prospects and not proven. Cooks is a proven great WR, and it's Cooks I want to add to the roster. He's a high character type if memory serves me correctly. I really wanted the Jets to draft him if they didn't take a QB the year he was in the draft. Of course, stupid Idzik took neither. I agree that picks are gold for rebuilding teams. That is even more true for a team like the Jets where their previous GMs blew so many picks trading up and making lousy draft selections. Still, adding a player of Cook's ability for basically two 3rd round picks would be a HUGE steal. Both Petty and Hack could take advantage of Cooks abilities. He would be a huge star with the Jets. He would have the opportunity to be a part of a young team. He may prefer going to a team with a chance to win a SB, and who could blame him, and I may be mistaken, but I don't think he would be unhappy to come here. I disagree about his production here. In NO Brees had a ton of targets to which he could throw the ball, and he spread it around a lot. Here Cooks would be the star and the primary target a lot of the time.
Says who? Don't just throw crap out there without links and sources. I'm calling BS. That is contrary to everything I read and heard about him when he was in the draft 3 years ago.
Just put the pieces together. Cooks wasn't complaining until Michael Thomas and Willie Snead came into the picture and stole his targets. Take a look at Willie Sneads Instagram. He wants to be the main target and a new contract. Why the hell would you leave Brees, Payton and that offense.
"Sources have indicated throughout this season that Cooks has felt a growing frustration with his usage -- mostly the idea that he is used too often as a clear-out receiver instead of as a primary option." This is all I can find. BS. If this is him being an "Awful teammate" then every receiver in the NFL is Awful. Brandon Marshall is 1000 times worse at expressing his need for the football.
Oh so it's bs? Put together all of the information and you can see he wasn't being treated as a number 1 receiver. Michael Thomas is a better outside receiver that catches everything. He still gets targets. Cooks is a bad teammate. He's only looking out for himself.
That describes soooo many #1 receivers in the league. Marshall, Beckham, Jones... Difference is they get frustrated for the world to see, Cooks does it behind the scenes but so does every WR. Atleast he is a professional about it. Guess we will have to agree to disagree.
