Sparon's job is to have Rex at the podium in post game presser saying "We really ran the ball 80 times? Wow, I didn't realize that".
Agreed. A great oline allows almost any back to be productive. Work in the play action and rolling out and Sanchez is pretty f'n good. Just need some capable bodies to throw at. Give this kid time and RB's a lane. The defense will go back to help winning games. Edit. In 09 one of our o-line men (probably Moore or Woody) said we play against teams that know we are going to run the football and we still run it down their throats . Or something like that. Would be nice to see again.
Sparano emphasized his desire for "chunk plays" in an interview I saw of his. There will be a lot of running but they will take shots down the field. They will stretch the field, it's a must in the NFL to keep D's honest and he's aware of this. The Jets had two plays of 40+ yards all season last year. TWO. You don't win games without stretching the field. Oddly enough, the Jets were second last in the NFL in that category, meaning some piece of shit team actually managed to have less than two 40+ yd plays all year. Wonder who that was....
I blame Schotty for a lot of what went wrong last year but I can't for the lack of big plays. The OL didn't give Sanchez time and when they did the receivers couldn't get open. And Sanchez missed some plays as well
sparano's most important job will be to make sure our o-line is giving enough time for sanchez to make a good throw and not having to scramble 80% of the plays
Also remember the few times the offense would come out on fire, they would stall immediately for basically the rest of the game. Look at the Giants game where they drive for 7 to start the game and then don't score til the 4th quarter. Or the Redskins game which they started with a touchdown drive (to answer WAS) then had trouble scoring until the second half again. Consistency is what the whole offense needs. We rarely could flip field position because all the 3 and outs. Remember the Pats game where every drive we had was either a touchdown or a 3 and out.
... an improvement at RT ... ... hunter replacing mulligan at the blocking TE position & smash mouth ball ... ... sign me up! ... i'm onboard the 4 yards and a cloud of dust throwback express .... woooot-wooooooot!!!!! ... l_j_r
His most important job will be getting this asshole, primadonna we have at the #1 receiver spot to STFU, stop whining, and get on board with the program ... WHATEVER it is.
I give him 3 weeks... 15 field goal attempts later and everyone here will be begging for Schottys return.. seriously. His personal most important job is convincing Rex he's an actual capable OC, so far he's been tremendous at this job.
His most important job will be evaluating the talent for when Parcells takes over as GM and he takes over as HC.
He isn't that big of a problem. The media blew it way out of proportion, people have arguments sometimes. Shocking, I know.
Arguments happen on the field ... yes. But that bullshit in Miami was a culmination of a cancer that was growing in the Jets locker room all season ... and Holmes was a big part of that. Sparano needs to nip that in the bud from day one, or it will be another long season. The one thing I like about Tony is his apparent ability to keep his team toghether and playing hard.
It's not Sparano's job to nip any locker room troubles in the bud, that's Rex's job. Had we stocked the locker room with leaders it would be on them to get things under control before getting the HC involved.
