man, nice trade but i am gonna miss him....i regret saying this but he still was our best lineman since we havent seen jenkins play in green and white but def. look for tangini to move up during the draft with these picks
The only good part about this deal is avoiding the cap hit from DRob , 4th and 5th seems way low. Are we about to use up the freed cap room again?
Hutchinson of SL said Robertson would need to restructure his contract to make any trade work. Only ESPN is reporting the trade.
With the kind of money owed to him and the going rate in the league, this seems fine to me. I'm thinking we might go for someone like Pat Sims or Dre Moore in the 2nd round now for DE depth.
Three 4th rounders this year. Statistically, that is our best round in the draft. We seem to find some of the best players in the 4th round in recent history. Cotchery, Rhodes, Leon, Fabini, etc.
This trade hits me a bit. I had high hopes for Robertson when he was drafted, and cheered like hell for him to succeed.
huge contract? Jenkins is getting even more now. That was something I wasn't too happy about. Jenkins was signed for two years at a reasonable amount, but instead we had to overpay him.
He wanted a new contract. It was one of the many reasons he wanted out of Carolina. They weren't going to bring him in and have him pissed off for two years.
Part of the deal was for the Jets to extend Jenkins' contract. I guess we wanted him that bad. At least Jenkins has a history of domination and pro bowls. His contract was way too much, but it's a buyer's market and we have a lot of dough.
I would bet we could package two 4th rounders to move up into the third round, so in effect, if we wanted to, we could get right back to a normal draft positioning having added Kris Jenkins for D Rob and loosing Vilma for a swap of 2nd to 4th rounders next year. Since we've added Faneca and potentially might add Calvin Pace and some additional depth, we really could do whatever we want in the upcoming draft including trading down to stockpile picks or trading up to get guys we want.
I don't mind this deal because we now have an extra 11 mil to spend and D-Rob wasn't a good fit for the 3-4, but we now have another hole at DE to fill.
Great move by Tannenbaum, this guy never sleeps He wasn't going to get a 3rd and 5th for D-Rob; he's not as well-regarded as Jenkins or Stroud. I can't complain- we've turned a lot of 4th rounders into successful NFL players: Leon Washington and Kerry Rhodes come to mind. It's an early 4th too so we'll have a lot of flexibility now. Kudos to Tannenbaum for another great job.
i would have waited to move robertson to see if the price could have risen....but if they pulled the trigger to clear room for another signing then i can see why they made the move
I have a good feeling about Damien Woody and Calvin Pace. (After this free agency period, and draft...a lot of NEW Jets' jersies are going to be put on, and a lot of OLD Jets' jersies are going to packed up.)
If we get Pace and Woody that would be impressive. As long as this team gels and stays healthy we could be looking at a playoff season on 08
http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1204522529306280.xml&coll=1 Hutch reports that the Jets would clear 8.4 million if this trade gets done. I hope this trade gets done, with that kind of cap relief this team could do even more great things.
that's a lot of dough the accountant cleaned up a mess and has us in a nice spot now if clemens can play in this league, we are really going in the right direction
Hutch is my favorite beat reporter for this reason. 8.4 million is a huge amount. They must really be gearing up to make a pretty big signing. Tannenbaum is a magician with the salary cap. Perhaps we can afford some guys I thought were out of our range. I'm not going to say any names, but there's a certain WR from Marshall I'd love to have. Tannenbaum has had an A+ offseason and its (probably) going to get better.
