If that's what it comes down to and we're up against Snyder, I trust Tannenbaum to make the right decision, which will probably be to back off at a certain point. Snyder is known for his egocentric "winner take all," get-the-player-no-matter-the-cost insanity, a strategy that will ensure that he's a loser for the rest of his life.

He might not move to the city but he certainly wouldn't blend in, he's Brett Favre. Plus, he's further past his prime than Boomer was when he came here and Boomer was from here. I'm sure he would have his moments as he always has, but I don't see him taking us to the Super Bowl or any further than we'd get without him. We'd just be a bigger story doing it, which in the end probably isn't worth it.

I agree. It seems to be the best of both worlds. It's rural enough to cater to the "country boys", but also close enough to NYC for the guys like Jenkins, who like the big city life.

Not to mention the training facility is supposed to be one of the best in the league

farve has never been hurt, so no reason to believe he will get hurt.

a 2nd or 3rd rd pick for him is nothing, as long as he can promise us two seasons

What does Pennington do for the Packers? Become a coach?

I drove by it the other day...it's on Park Ave. in Florham Park. Looks amazing. Almost like a grown-up Disney World. Can't wait for TC to start begin held there.

    Favre will stay retired

The way things are breaking lately with the bridge totally burned with GB and the Vikings tampering charges, I believe that in the end Favre is going to stay retired.

That said I have no idea why most sportscasters think that GB has the upper hand and can prevent him from going to whomever he wants.

All Favre has to do is report. At this point I doubt that GB wants or will allow him to be on the team, and they do not want to support his salary. So GB will try to trade him., but all Favre has to do is say I will only REPORT to the following teams: _____,______,______, and no team not on that list will give up compensation for him. So GB will have to decide to release him or keep a now divisive force on the team. To throw salt into the wound, Favre can then say that if they keep him on a backup role that he WILL play out the end of the contract. GB will be pretty much forced to release him.

But my gut says Favre will not take it that far and stay retired.

You shouldn't need convincing, I think only 3 AFC teams have more playopff appearances than us this decade. We have also had a few bad seasons but the all were b/c of injuries except for last year.

If we ever do somehow land Favre..............somehow..........and for any reason (other than injury/injuries) we do not win at least 10 games, Mangini and Tannenbaum could have very well put their feet in the bear trap.

Jets Won't Address Favre Rumor Citing 'Tampering'

The New York Daily News' Rich Cimini reports that the New York Jets will not address Brett Favre rumors citing 'tampering' as a concern.

If the answer was no - we are not interested - tampering would not be a concern. Bleacher Report scooped the story that the Jets might be talking internally about Favre way back on July 15. So one would have to assume that they are indeed exploring the Favre option.

Cimini wrote that, "[Vernon] Gholston will show up eventually, but not Brett Favre, the aforementioned elephant. Even though the Daily News has reported the Jets aren't interested in a trade, the Favre rumors are rampant, and they won't die in part because the Jets won't address the matter publicly. GM Mike Tannenbaum, through a team spokesman, declined to comment, citing tampering rules.

"We have guys here, so I wouldn't even do that," wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery said of a potential Favre deal. "My teammates feel very confident in the guys we have."

Scout.com indicated that, "The New York Jets players, coaches and front office types found themselves deflecting questions about Favre as well, saying they?re happy with Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens and don?t expect to discuss potential trade offers." How coy are the Jets being with the comment, "don?t expect to discuss potential trade offers..."? And, really, do you feel fans, Laveranues Coles, Dustin Keller and the Johnson family are really happy with the combined 15 TDs and 19 INTs that Chad & Kellen combined for in 2007?

So, based on Tannenbaum's use of the tampering excuse - I still believe that the Jets are discussing bringing #4 to New Jersey. If backup punter Joe Smith is willing to give up his jersey.

apparently both Clemens and Penny looked terrible today.....I know it's only the first day....but with all the money spent in the offseason, I really hope the Jets FO knows what they're doing regarding the QB situation.

I don't want to see this team end up like the Minnesota Vikings...all the pieces in the right place except the QB.

    Go and Get Favre!!
