yeah I wasn't counting this year. I'm a 3 year guy in terms of grading a draft class.

But 09 is so good you can grade it an A right now.

yeah i agree with the salary/character issues,i htought that could go without saying.i was more making a point against the post stating they would take a first for harris.
it seems alot of people value the chance at more new players over solid to star caliber players.

Absolutely. You never wanna lose a pro bowl caliber player unless u have like two pro bowl caliber QBs or three pro bowl caliber CBs or something. I would never risk losing a player that fills the need, can play at a great level, has reasonable salary requirements and isn't 41 years old wearing #4...

Too many first round busts out there so rather keep the proven player over anyone else. If somebody wanted to give up a 1st and a 3rd for him, then you talking about an offer that could be too good to turn down.

As good as he has been, he does have Gholston on his resume. Do u think Tanny will hit home runs every time in the first rounds? No way, not a chance. Theres ALWAYS a huge risk.

I don't want to quibble here but in some way you have to take into account the fact that lumping picks to trade up is high stakes in one respect but in another you are also limiting your overall number of picks and therefore limiting the NUMBER of chances you take to pick a bust.

Let's say you have a two and a low one, you package them to move up for a single, higher first round pick. Now if you didn't, and picked in your original spots, there's two chances to make bad picks. Move up, you end up with one pick. It's a more important pick to be sure, but there is SOME limitation on your downside.

THe effect of this consideration in assessing Tanny's draft is you can't merely say (not that you are, jus sayin) that the absolute number of busts is not that relatively high. The relevant relative consideration is comparing good picks with bad.

So what would you give the 08 draft? I'd probably put it at a C cus Gholston sucks so much. Keller is good and Lowery has made several plays for this team and may have a future at safety. The rest of the picks flamed out (Marcus Henry, Nate Garner, Erik Ainge)

No GM gets a pro bowler every time. To me a 1st rounder has to play 10yrs and be considered a top 10 player at his position the entire time.

Gholston ruins that grade. But Keller has gotten better every year. Lowery is solid. Late round picks are known for having short careers.

If you have 2 guys who make impact plays from one draft, it's a good draft, but Gholston makes the grade complete shit.

is it possible to get a first and a third for harris?

because if we could... we could end up with a mid one, and if we trade our original pick down, two two's, and two three's...out of those picks we could pick a very good olb, very good d lineman, and harris' replacement like martez wilson, a safety, and whatever is the next BAP

If there's no CBA, picks can't be traded for players only picks (at least that's what I saw on SportsCenter today)

1.) No trades for players until there's a new CBA.
2.) Would you be happy if the Jets traded a first and a third for a player like Harris who you're going to have to pay something like 5/40? What team would possibly make that deal?

then your counting on 2 starting rookies in the lb corp. and another rookie rotating in dl.
thats means you're going into the season with ? at 3 positions instead of 2.
no thanks harris needs to stay

My bad. I meant to say two firsts I guess. We are not putting a tender on Harris, just franchising him.

I like Harris. In fact, I was hoping that the Pats would've have drafted him. Do you think he's worth the franchise tag? What happens if a long term deal can't be reached? That's a lot of money to spend on Harris. I would have thought that the transition tag would have made a bit more sense. Thoughts?

Because of the 30% rule the only way they can prevent him from becoming a FA right now is by franchising him. A long term deal will be worked out when the CBA is defined.
