I don't remember him being upset at all. If I remember correctly he seemed perfectly fine with it and never seemed upset?
He wasn't upset with the Jets, he was upset with the situation. He said he wanted a new deal too, but knew it was impossible given the uncapped rules. Can't find a link, but I remember him saying he was willing to be patient because he knew he was in a bad situation.
That's his point... it's because in a thread I made I said that's the only trade that would make me happy if the Jets were to part ways with Harris... the meaning being that I'd be happy only if: 1) Someone is crazy enough to offer a totally unrealstic value (in terms of draft picks) or 2) We keep him. I think he's more imporant to our D than some (many?) here believe.
That's your opinion. And it looks like that opinion is not shared by the Jets unless this a ploy to gain trade leverage.
It's best move. The market has to dictate Holmes, Edwards and Cromartie. They've all been pretty clean as Jets but that doesn't mean they are not risks for the Jets or anyone else.
Very debatable... Losing both of them would be worse than losing just Harris, losing only one of the two wouldn't be as bad as losing Harris (in my opinion of course).
Agreed. I think that every year there are plenty of 3-4 ILBs--not ones as good as Harris, to be sure, but 2-downers who could fit in that you take in the 3rd or 4th round. Would they be as good as Harris? Of course not. After Patrick Willis, he's in the discussion for best ILB in the game. But the value of a elite ILB probably lacks behind that of a really good wide receiver, just in terms of how much they help the team. I'm not against resigning Harris--that would be stupid--and I'm not sure either Braylon or Holmes deserve the franchise tag--that's a lot of money for two really good, but not elite WRs. But I think Harris is a little bit overrated by some--he's good, but replacable.
I don't think this is the direction this team should go in. The front office needs to put as many good players around Mark Sanchez as possible.
Question: If we tag a player, and then trade that player do we still pay him for that year(after hes been traded) and does he still have an effect on our cap? because honestly I hope we tag, and trade Harris. Then focus on both WR's, and Cromartie. we may be able to trade Harris to jump early in the first road of the draft for a big time OLB prospect.
No. The team (likely) will work out a long term deal for him and then we're free of any contractual obligation to him.
Rich Cimini has an article up about the "analysis" of the Jets going in this direction with the franchise tag. He says this: Who knows if this is accurate, but it's his assertion in the face of franchising Harris.
i like the move - the fan in me really wants to see this defense unchanged from last year with the addition of some OLB and NT help. we need a pass rush - look at the problems we gave manning and brady by dropping coverage. add a consistent pass rush on the perimeter would only compound the issues for opposing QB's - especially ones like rothlisberger that can move around. if the jets were somehow able to keep things intact with harris and cromartie on D and add some youth/speed at the edge they would have the opp to be a fantastic, lites out D. jil
Sione Pouha was damn good last season. We need depth along the defensive line, specifically at end. ...but we need a consistent pass rusher over anything. The front seven needs to get faster.
Wait, in the same post you just said that after Patrick Willis that David Harris is in the discussion for best ILB in the game, and then immediately after that say that he is overrated by some and replaceable? How is he second best to Patrick Willis AND overrated?????? :breakdance::breakdance::breakdance:
