Tanny is far more to blame than anyone.

Tanny's JOB is to get the right stars, starters, and depth.

Tanny has done a good job in getting a handful of stars, but has dropped the ball on complimentary starters and depth.

Virtually every angry TGG fan's rant can be tied back to this failing.

And the angry TGG rant's that are directed at Shotty, well Tanny hired him too.

    Wait a second....

So are some of you trying to tell me that is actually acceptable to take more than 2 years to develop into a top 5 QB in this league???

Because a lot of fans seem to think if by year 3 you are not as good as Brees is now, or Rogers is NOW! Than you suck and should be removed for any college QB because they all come in and have success like Dalton and Newton???

    Now I am confused.....

While I don't disagree completely, I think Rex has a huge hand in personnel.

I think Tanny realizes he is an accountant turned GM, and relies on the coaching staff and scouts for personnel.

I actually blame Rex more than Tanny.

The "coincidences" are remarkable...in fact they are not coincidences at all. Schotty hand a hand in the slow development of Drew Brees, and he is not helping Sanchez at all. However, to be fair, we are minimizing the effect that Sean Payton had on Brees in NO.

What is frightening is that Charger fans were ready & eager to give up on Brees, sounding similar to the Jets' fans complaints about Sanchez.

Bottom line...SD took the bait of "upgrading" at QB, drafted Eli, wound up w/Rivers, made a choice between Rivers & Brees, and, arguably, chose wrong, although Brees' trade was made after he sustained a horrible injury which put his career in jeopardy.

Given the Jets track record of bad luck in making such choices, I would not put the team in a position where the future hinges on such a choice. The SD situation gives us a good idea that ditching Sanchez now could be a mistake.

The best play for the Jets is to go with the high percentage move. Bring in a new OC, gear the O to Sanchez' strength, fix at least some of the other problems, and then take it from there

The Chargers drafted Philip Rivers because the organizational perspective was that Drew Brees wasn't going to be a topflight QB. That perspective came from Brian Schottenheimer and Cam Cameron, who were the QB coach and offensive coordinator.

The primary reason that Brees was viewed as unlikely to succeed was that he was inaccurate, prone to throwing interceptions at bad times, didn't make good reads and had had a really bad third season.

You can't cut Schotty slack in the Chargers disastrous decision to draft Philip Rivers and let Brees go eventually. He was the organization's main eyes on Brees and he dropped the ball.

The criticim of Mark Sanchez has intensified in the last 3 weeks. Sources in the Jet's organization have been quoted saying all sorts of things about his future. It'd be interesting to see who those sources were.

Good Point. I've often felt that Sanchez' criticisms were Schotty based

I said this EXACT thing with Brees and Sanchez in another thread.....

You have to give these QBs some time. Sanchez showed more promise in his 1st 3 years then Brees did. Yeah sure the Bolts O-Line was pretty bad but it was not bad enough(No Wayne Hunter esque awful player) since Tomlinson was able to rip off run after run during this time. Brees had a HOF back to work with, Sanchez is working with the shell of a HOF back. Huge difference.

Oh ok so schotty gets the blame for Brees early struggles, but little to no credit for his two good seasons in 04 and 05.

I agree that's why I questioned if people actually watched the game. How many 2nd and long/3rd and longs were the jets in last week? They had no choice but to throw in those situations.

everyone just wants to blame the OC and QB, they need a scapegoat. When you look at the statsheet 59 passes is startling but we have to be able to realize why we threw it so often.

That IS fuckin creepy. Brees is getting ripped like he's Sanchez....... It makes me weary of writing him off this year. Only time will tell, and I truly hope I'm wrong.

10-7, with the ball to start the second half.

So you throw the ball some 30 more times, right?

20-14, with the ball at the midfield, with 5 minutes.

So you throw the ball yet again, even when the Giants run D is less than soft, right?

Fucking brilliant. Just fucking brilliant. Stay delusional. That may be your only saving grace.

Those comments were made when Brees was in his 3rd season as a starter, and was only 3 games into that year. He finished that year with a 65.5 completion% 26 TDs and only 7 Ints. The team finished 12-4.

This is also year 3 for Sanchez as a starter and we are 8-7, and has a 56.2 completion % 24TDs and 15Ints. The difference is Brees showed significant improvement in his 3rd year while Sanchez has not. I wish we had a Rivers waiting in the wings.
