Well a tie would be to our disadvantage since the Pats would own the head to head, so I guess it's a possibility. But I think I'm going to stick with my "definitely win unless we lose" bet. BTW, I expect a big first half out of the Jets on Thursday. I'm at a school play until 9:30 or so and can't watch. In fact my cellphone is going to be confiscated for the duration so I don't spend the whole performance furtively glancing at it instead of watching the lil performer. So if the tide turns suddenly and dramatically with 5 minutes left to go in the half you'll know I got home and turned on the TV. I'm going to Tivo the whole thing but I am picking the game up in progress when I get home. That way I'm happy or miserable in sync with the rest of Jet's fandom and my buddy Phil doesn't piss me off by calling me with the results while I am midway through the 3rd quarter.
Well the Jets defense appears to be peaking and the Pats' defense is really hurting now. I like our odds, but past history suggests that the Pats win. IMO i think there's actually a chance that the Jets put in on the Pats pretty good tomorrow night. As long as they don't get stupid with turnovers or tighten up due to the pressure of this game.
There is no way the Jets lose this game unless Mangini goes completely bonkers with the game plan. In week 2 Favre knew about 35% of the play book if that. He knew less than that about opposing 3-4 defenses. Those he is still learning. The OL and DL hadn't come together at all. Even with all of that, NE has since lost their top 3 RBs and are using a 4th stringer, Harrison and Adalius Thomas, their pro bowl defensive player. Get over it, this is an easy win.
Easy win? No way the Pats are loaded on both sides of the LOS and they are pridefull and know what's at stake. This game is a war in the trenches there won't be many easy yards any where on the field.
I said it in Week 2 but it applies now as well...if not now, when? Miami went in there and destroyed them with a QB who is "finished" and "can't throw 5 yards", so why can't we beat them when they're all banged up? Not saying we're going to, but if we don't do this now when will we? Next year when they have Brady back and we have Clemens or Ratliff playing? Do. It. Now.
I am sure that was all true when Miami beat them at Foxboro in Week 3 by a score of 38-13 too. It doesn't matter. We won't score 40 in the first half but this game will never be in doubt.
I think this game is going to be 20 minutes of fighting for every inch of turf by both teams coupled with 3 hours of beer and pharmacutical commercials.
i kind of agree. Their wins have been against shit teams, and they haven't beaten the teams we have minus SD, where the Jets and Pats had to go to SD to play that game. This team has had cupcake wins, the Jets have had more teams with more credibility that they've beaten. I can see the Jets winning by 10 in NE. And if its rains, I trust Jenkins will beat out Koppen and Green-Ellis more than Wilfork stopping Mangold and TJ. Jenkins is better than Wilfork.
This is the best I have felt going into a Pats game in a real long time. Since the Pats dominance began this is the first time I feel confident that we can win the war in the trenches that it is going to take to walk out of that game in first place. Bring them on!
You're nuts. With all the Pats injuries, the Jets have a distinct talent advantage. They should win this game.
The Patriots will never be an easy win when they play the Jets. winston is right, their D-line is still elite and they will do their best to shut down our running game and try to force Favre into mistakes. And if you hadn't noticed, he does have a tendency to make mistakes in the clutch from time to time. On the offensive trench, they are running a zone blocking scheme. It calls for a lot of blindsides and misdirection, and you can bet those sons of bitches are going to be trying to cut Jenkins at the knees all night long. Zone blocking thrives on dirty play. Just look at the Donkeys. This game is not going to be an easy win. But I have a good feeling about it nonetheless.
Miami didn't win that game because of QB play. Stout defense and a strong running game is what did it...........and those two things just happen to be the Jets' strong points of late.:jets:
If you watched it they threw very effectively early, over 200 yards in the first half. When they had a big lead they ran the ball down New England's throat in the second half. Exactly what we need to do. We don't need Favre to be the hero, he needs to make smart throws and then we need to blast them off the line and run the ball. And with apologies to Mike Singletary, we need to hit Cassell in the mouff, early and often.
They have some great players on both sides of the line and they know how to win and what's at stake and it's in their house. The idea that this is going to be easy is nonesense. This is a game of effort and desire not talent.
Amen This game is not about trick plays and fake punts but about smash mouth football. Attack their weaknesses with will and resolve. Get into their heads and let them know we are every bit as good as them and we will prove it in the trenches. Put them away early and keep pounding, and above all, do not make stupid errors and costly mistakes.
Kris Jenkins. Who can stop him? Hopefuly he's getting in their backfield and disrupting things the way he has been. He has to look out for those dirty Patriot fuckers chopping at his legs early to take him out. The Pats know he's the key to our defense. If he's in there and reeking havoc, we have a good chance. As Favre said yesterday, "Let's put it on Kris."
We have Brett Farve and they don't. For once we have the better punchers chance of winning a close game!
