Gruden + Payton are going to get fined later this week as well because neither of them were wearing the masks much during last nights game
They get tested before the game so the assumption is that everyone on the field is negative, but there is still a 3-5 day window when the test could show a false negative. No problem with the NFL fining the coaches who can't follow simple rules and safety protocols.
I think they should be wearing them when on the sidelines. While on the field I would imagine it would be difficult to breathe with a good mask. The coaches are standing still so they have no excuse. There is always going to be a certain level of risk and there definitely is one in that 3-5 day window when players could spread the virus to each other after a false negative test. But ultimately a deal was made between the NFL and the PA on how they were going to play out this season and these are the rules. Not to mention it looks like a memo or two were sent out to the teams warning them that they were going to enforce these rules.
What's the point? The coaches sit trapped in meeting rooms with the players all week without a mask and yet when they're outside they need to wear them? The coaches are obviously tested and probably the least likely component to an NFL team to make a dumb decision and put themselves in a bad situation around a lot of people like a player might. Coaches wearing masks is a horse and pony show for the league.
Nothing more than show for the league. The rule is dumb and the fact that it's 100k for each Coach + 250k for the team is even worse.
holy cow.... and to think the hillbillies up here in ct are losing their minds over a 100 dollar fine that can or cannot be enforced based upon what the officer chooses.
Well I too find a lot of laws and rules bullshit but I try to follow them especially if it means my wallet gets lighter if I don't. These coaches were warned ahead of time that the NFL was going to enforce the mask rule that was agreed upon in the deal to play out the season. So not sure why everyone feels bad for millionaires who can't follow simple rules.
They're still wearing the masks. They just pull them down at times (more frequently than others I suppose) throughout the game. Do you go 30 or below at all times in a 30 MPH zone?
If the cops sent me a memo or two that I would be under surveillance and that they were enforcing the speed limit I agreed upon by fining me 10-25x as much, I am pretty sure I would go the speed limit.
Here we go.. It wasn't a matter of IF, but when.. Is playing Sunday without practicing even realistic? Just virtual gameplanning?
Vikings now shutting down as well. EDIT - So the NFL has already said they will have no problems pushing Superbowl and start of playoffs back. That would mean there would be a week 18. I guess any team that gets positive tests would have games pushed back to that week 18?
We can sim the game in Madden... Shame on the NFL for not foreseeing this and building safeguards in. It's obvious they should've adopted the ACC model of building two bye weeks in. They could've stretched the NFL season out too as there's no weather restriction when playing football. Now they have to scramble to make this work because they were arrogant about it working flawlessly for 5 months.
You could be right. But the NFL is also very arrogant. The NFLPA had to complain before they fixed the testing process and added better protocols in place. What exactly did they think they were going to do? Just work with business as usual and use the hope strategy?
