The one good thing is that he isfriends with Geno/Vick and maybe they will see this kid trying his all to make the squad and appreciate that they have a job.

Boyd's worth a flier as developmental pick. Certainly, he's made his fair share of bone-headed decisions, but he's come up big on occasion.

I also agree with this point. After all, the amount he'll have to contribute to stand up to last year's pick is to dress for the game. Also, FYI, the Jets' 6th round picks for past few years:

    2013 William Campbell
    2012 Robert Griffin
    2011 (None)
    2010 (None)
    2009 Matt Slauson
    2008 Marcus Henry
    2007 Jacob Bender
    2006 Drew Coleman
    2005 Cedric Houston
    2005 Joel Dreessen

The bar isn't exactly high, and a developmental QB is just as good as any of those guys. Doesn't bother me at all.

Man Slauson was a great value. Never an all time great talent but I mean he was about a league average LG that we got in the 6th, gotta love that.

Can't argue with that. Slauson was a great developmental pick. He came out of a good program and was being coached by one of his former college HCs. He also got the chance to sit for a year, which was great because we needed him in 2010. Back to Boyd, if he comes as hungry as Slauson, he'll be an asset to the team. Definitely seems like he's a mature kid. Hope that he sticks.

Before he decided to stay in school last year, I wanted the Jets to take Boyd over Geno. I seriously doubt he'd outright win the starting job but if Geno struggles like he did last year I can see Boyd getting a shot.

During his second year as a starter in 2012, Boyd helped lead the Tigers to a 11-2 record, completing 287 of 427 passes for 3,896 yards, 36 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. On November 17, 2012 in a game against NC State State, he broke the ACC record for most touchdowns in a game. Boyd threw five touchdown passes and ran for three more, collecting eight total touchdowns and racking up 529 all-purpose yards.[5] After the season he was named the ACC Player of the Year.[6] In the2012 Chick-fil-A Bowl game against the LSU Tigers, Boyd completed 36 of 50 pass attempts for 346 yards and two passing touchdowns as well as a rushing touchdown and was named the game's MVP.[7]

As a senior in 2013, the Tigers went 11-2, with Boyd completing 283 of 413 passes for 3,851 yards, 34 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. On November 14, 2013 Boyd set the ACC career passing touchdowns record.[8][9] In his final college game against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2014 Orange Bowl, Boyd helped lead the Tigers to a 40-35 victory, completing 31 of 40 passes for 378 yards and five passing touchdowns. He also had 127 rushing yards and a touchdown.[10] His performance set an Orange Bowl record for total yards in a game.[11]

Boyd finished his career with school records for passing yards with 11,904 and passing touchdowns with 107.

Hopefully this will help justify it a little, he is not perfect but he is far from Tim Tebow.

If you yourself threw to Watkins, he'd look good.
If Lingerie League QB's threw to Watkins, he'd look even better.
    No mistaking my point.

I don't give a shit. He has a giant turnover problem when he faces better teams. All that statistical yardage is bullshit when he has Sammy Watkins running a 7 yard swing pass 40 yards for a touchdown every game. He's got a strong arm, maybe Lee can work some magic with him.

Let it happen & you'll see... Last presesason & season the genome played with a deer in the headlights attitude, Matt Simms outplayed him hands down.

And then when the lights came on for real Matt Simms looked like he didn't belong in the league. That's why you need competition at the QB spot, especially since Vick is a short-term backup at best.

The only way that happens is if Geno and Vick are both hurt. Even then they'll probably start Simms or someone else with more experience. Sixth-rounders don't start Opening Week as a rookie.

Hell no, Simms has improved but he wouldn't be in the NFL if it wasn't for his pops. Check his college stats he's never done anything at any level to be a starting nfl quarterback. Good kid cannon arm but be real.
