I would say Roger Clemens is the best pitcher of that generation

That's not something I would neccisarily disagree with, but it really is a matter of how you as an individual value a pitcher's accomplishments.

Clemens has been excellent and he's done it for an astounding period of time.

Perdo has pitched over a much shorter timeframe, but he's been more dominant at his best.

    Clemens numbers- .665 W%, 3.12 ERA, 143 ERA+, 1.173 WHIP, 8.61 K/9, 2.96 K/BB- Average season- 17-8, 3.12 ERA, 1.173 WHIP, 227 K, 76 BB

    Pedro's numbers- .701 W%, 2.72 ERA, 166 ERA+, 1.021 WHIP, 10.25 K/9,
    4.32 K/BB- Average Season- 17-7, 2.72 ERA, 1.021 WHIP, 252 K, 58 BB

Pedro's numbers are better, and really it isn't even all that close.

Oh, and Junc, Pedro has a 3.40 playoff ERA and a .750 W%, Clemens has 3.71 and .600. And last I checked, his 7 shutout innings against a very good Cardinals offense came after '99. Plus he had two good starts against Oakland in the '03 ALDS, and one against Anahiem in the '04 ALDS.

He had the 9th best season in baseball history when the Red Sox went to the ALCS (and his playoff line: 17 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 6 BB, 25 K), and the 2nd best season in baseball history in a year the Sox won 85 games.

He has the best ERA+ in baseball history. Statistics show that he's the best pitcher ever. End of story.

For all I care Pedro could have shit his pants and sucked his thumb last night... as long as he wins us games and he's healthy I'm happy.

Clemens? Randy Johnson? I think Clemens and Pedro are clsoe but longevity seperates the 2. Johnson has been as dominat at times and is a better postseason pitcher. In a big game though 'd take Schilling over anyone.

a very good Cardinals offense? pedro pitched that game w/ no pressure as the Cards were already a dead team after the first 2 games.

I thin the longevity seperates Pedro and Clemens, both have similar postseason #s- both have had ups and downs but I'll take a great pitcher for 20+ years over a great pticher for 10+ years.

just like statistics show us ARod is the best player in baseball, right? You have to look deeper than just the #s sometimes. #s are a part but it's not the end of an argument b/c he has better reg season #s. How many all-time greats blew a 3 run lead in the 8th of a 7th game?
