Nonsense! Anyone seen Big Ben playin yesterday? Or Jake Delhomme(a QB who has taken his team to a Super Bowl). That's just two examples why I think our expectations on the QB are over the top. Brady and Peyton, maybe Palmer cannot be the standard - and even they have down games. By the way Pennington actually led us to OT if not for that bad call by the refs. If we pull out an ugly win all the papers would write how a good QB can struggle but still get it together in crunchtime. I still like Pennington because he rarely losesgames for us. We know he is a QB who needs a team that sets him up with a couple of good situations (turnovers from the D - special teams - good field position) because he cannot do all on his own. I say we give Clemens at least one more year to mature - something that doe snoone any harm. To throw a rookie QB into the cold water can severely damage a players confidernce.
I have compared Big Ben's performance to Chad's yesterday a few times but I don't believe its a fair comparison. ben was coming off a concussion although I don't think he should have been on the field he gets a pass I was at the Eagles game yesterday and one player I compare Pennington's performance to is Donovan McNabb. If you could have seen some of the throws he was making yesterday you would have felt the same way you do about Pennington. They have the same record as we do now and that offense has been terrible too. Every QB has bad games where he looks terrible. Mcnabb is one of the best in the league and he has had a few of those games. We do not need to bench Pennington. You have to play the QB that allows you to win the most games and right now that is Pennington. I feel like some people on here just like suffering through 4-12 seasons becuase it gives them something to complain about. Its better to have an 8-8 or maybe 9-7 rebuilding team than a 4-12 one.
I agree, this was not a marquis performance by Chad. I don't know if I would say he was horrible, but the 2 interceptions definitely hurt us. Until somebody proves they can play better than Chad, then Chad is our QB. I do not think it is fair to put this loss totally on Chad, though. Our D flat out sucked in the first half, and didn;t really get it in gear until the forth quarter. Bottom Line: As long as our defense can not stop the run, there is no friggin' way we have a chance at the playoffs this year!!!!! May be just as well. I still like what we have done so far this year. I can not complain too much over all. Like I always have said, Herm left an absolute mess here in January - he and Bradway destroyed the quality of our personnel. I will never forgive Herm for the way he left this team. I gotta get over it and move on. I do not think we tried to get Washington around the end enough yesterday. I can't figure out why we constantly try to run him up the gut all the time. Justin Miller is incredible on KO's. HE has to learn to play the ball more in pass D. He has had about 4 or 5 penalties called on him this year. All at a bad time in the game. Why didn't the announcers say much about the fantastic punt Graham got off yesterday (no yards form scrimmage given). I think it went about 60+ yards. Then Brad Smith dropped the guy immediately on the 11. Just amazing. Brad Smith has to be taught to be a receiver. We need more production out of him. At 4-4, we are still ahead of where a lot of people put us this year. We are not good enough to absorb many mistakes in the game, and I think, that is really is the big difference.
Cmon now as a NYJ fan you had to know whenever our OLine is being beaten to death by the other guys DLine & Penny hears the footsteps & feels the pressure he just drops down many, many levels in his play. Yesterday was a perfect example of that. Another example was the Oak PO game a few years back. To beat Penny all you have to do is pressure him
Champ, this is true of probably 90% of the QB's playing in the NFL. What killed us mostly was our inability to establish a consistent running game.
No what killed us is both there lines totally manhandled our 2 lines. H'mmm somewhere way down deep in my mempry bank I remember a guy name JWN chucking accurate passes as he was getting walloped. Also just cause maybe 90% of todays QBs cannot handle pressure does not make it right. Doubt if you saw the Atl/Cinncy game & see how well Vick handle the constant pressure from the Cinncy DL
That is basically true about all QB's. If you can put consistent pressure on any QB you can beat him. Just look at what the Pats always seem to do with the Colts.
There are some QBs who stand up better then others. Maybe if you saw Vick yesterday you would not have posted what you posted.
You can't compare Pennington and Vick. That is absurd. Vick is faster than most RB's and he can avoid pressure. That is just a stupid comparison.
The only person in the NFL that you can compare to Vick is a future Vince Young. There are exceptions to every rule and Vick is the exception to the rule I mentioned above.
If you want to compare them in that way, why don't you compare what kind of passer's they are? Because Chad is light years ahead of Vick when it comes to being a pure passer. Vick is a remarkable athlete and has probably the strongest arm I've ever seen...that being said, he has almost no touch on the ball, awful accuracy, and he's stupid. And yea I watched the past 2 games of his, and I saw alot of passes where his receivers make incredible catches yet the announcers credit Vick and Vick only so the fans and viewers do the same. 7 TD's in 2 games or not, he is a vastly overrated "quarterback"
Agreed on both points. Chad does get that deer in the headlight look too often. I used to think it was the intimidation factor of playing a really good team on the road but the Browns don't qualify.
If you were coming off two career threatening injuries, you'd be scared too. Especially the thought of Ted Washington piling on your repaired right shoulder or getting smoked from behind while trying to throw. Chad's only human and the last thing we need is for him to suddenly become fearless and gets himself injured again.
If Chad has to play like he did yesterday to avoid getting injured then maybe him getting hurt again would be a blessing in disguise for the franchise. His head was not in the game outside of the first and last drives, and the Jets aren't going to win games with Chad running scared.
Ive just skimmed through, and I noticed champ is comparing michael vick's ability to run to penningtons. Wow Anyhow, it was a bad game against a terrible team. He has to do better then that. If he plays like this in any other game, we will lose. Our defense is not going to score any points for us. Typical Jets we have the lead , we let the other team back in. Were losing and now the defense decides to stuff the run and pressure the qb. Disgusting.
Chad's going to be the QB for the next few seasons at least, try and get used to it. Nobody had a good game yesterday, he just stands out because he is in the spotlight just like every QB. He seems to have trouble with any BB style D, he needs to figure it out if he ever wants to win the big one.
Nope, did not see it. JWN was noted for an INT or 2 or 3 every now and then. It was really the SB year when he and the rest of the team shined. JWN was never afraid to take a shot though. I think he accepted it because there was no way he was running. Our O-line was OK yesterday, our D was horrible against the run for 3 quarters. Our D is what is really putting a damper on this team this year, but there was too many issues for Mangini to address in one year.
