I like Miller's explosiveness, and he's had some great games. It's just when he begins to get beat as a CB, he gives up. The fumbles don't worry me so much, because he's still young, and learning how to take a hit from a special teams guy while trying to create a big return is a skill that takes some practice. Maybe Mickens' arrival will be just what Miller needs to get the CB part of his game figured out. I have a feeling he will be a lot better on punt returns regardless. I'm not giving up on Miller!
At the beginning of TC last year, Miller looked great in man coverage. When they tried to teach him the cover 2, he looked lost. I hated that cover 2, and I'm glad it, along with zone blocking on the O line, is history. I think the new defense will be much better suited to Miller's strengths as a cover corner. Barrett, on the other hand, was probably a better cover 2 CB than a man or straight zone CB. He could well be the new nickel guy. I have to suspect that Rhodes will be the FS, with Coleman, Maddox and Smith all battling it out for the SS spot. Coleman could well end up being Rhodes' backup at FS.
totally agree with the past two posts, especially this one. i can't understand why everyone is down on Miller so much. he's very young and has so much time to burgeon; not to mention we got him with the 57th pick or whatever it was. if he turns out to be only a solid #2 CB, that's still very good value. but, like i said, he has all the physical tools required for a #1 CB -- he just needs more experience and some coaching. having Herm force that Cover 2 crap on him may have even set him back because it detracted from the experience he would have gained playing straight man coverage, which is his main strength. when he played man-to-man, he performed well. again, see the Carolina game: how many CB's in the NFL last year were able to run stride-for-stride with Steve Smith; furthermore, how many rookie CB's were able to do that? i have a lot of confidence in Miller now that Mangini is here. and i agree with you, thunderbird, that Barrett could very well be beaten out by both Miller and Dyson, especially if he starts out slowly like he always does. i doubt Mangini will tolerate that the way Herm did. (and i also agree with the part about Coleman; it seems the staff is high on Smith. the three way SS battle will be very interesting). cheers

If you were a true fan you should be quite disturbed about that statement as it indicates that the players we have now palying those positions are not as good as some of you think they are.
