No. But I'm drawing my conclusions about yesterday's game based on what actually happened on the field instead of falling back on a fan invented, self-pitying narrative like this same old jets bullshit.

To suggest that I somehow enjoy seeing the Jets lose just because I'm not crying "poor me, fire Schotty, OMG!" is asinine.

This is not the main point, and again, I saw several great plays on D yesterday.

But after the lousy first quarter for both teams, what did the Jets D really do?

First possession by Miami after the Jets took a 3-0 lead, they converted three first downs, moving from their own 25 to the Jet 36. Not bad for them, right? The Jets fortunately held Miami there, sacking Henne who looked terrible on a 3rd and seven. Which put Miami out of FG range.

Next Miami possession, concededly the D forces a three and out, but on their next possession, Miami tied the score with a FG. Their final possession of the first half began with 1:09 on the clock, so we can't make too much of holding Miami then.

Their first possession of the second half was, again, three and out, but the next possession was when Miami scored the winning TD. So after the first quarter, played by both teams to a stalemate, in one possession Miami greatly improved their field position only to have Henne make a bad play and take a big sack. Taking out the last possession of the first half, Miami proceeded to score on two of its next three possessions.

I just don't see giving the D an A+ for a day like that.

Who is revelling in it? Seems like the only people who are happy today are those wearing rose colored glasses, focusing on "positives" and silver linings.

If you don't mind, make that HATE, being swept by the hated fish, you're not really a Jet fan.

I don't think that anybody deserves an A+ on a day where the Jets lost, but the defense did undeniably put us in the position to win the game. Without some real boneheaded mistakes on special teams they actually put us in position to win fairly comfortably. To do the kind of job that they did against an offense that shredded them just a few weeks ago is impressive in my opinion.

SOJ means the Jets always find a way to screw it up in the end. For a franchise that has not won the SB in forty years, why do you say SOJ is bs?

    6 sacks-

The leagues #2 rushing offense had 52 yards.

It wasn't about flashy plays, it was just overall dominance.

Yes I understand they let up 1 TD. I completely get it, but if out team only lets up 1 offensive TD every week, we are in great shape.

I'm looking at the positive and you are looking at the negative. We'll just agree to disagree.

The last word is all yours......

The D gave up the winning score. I don't call that impressive.

The D played its worst game of the season in the first Miami game. Did they play better yeseterday? Yes. Did they win? No. Did the D give up the wining score? Yes.

    That about covers it.

Who's reveling in it? There are more threads on the front page of this forum about how the Jets are chokers and the coaching staff needs to be run out of town (it's Schotty now, it'll be Ryan next season) than there are threads featuring actual analysis of the game.

Because 40 years ago most of these players weren't alive. These guys are professional athletes at the highest level in the world, you think that they give a crap about "same old jets?" It's 100% irrelevant to what happens on the field.

I hate SOJ as much as the next person, but you can't ignore it as a Jets fan and it's almost comical to say after games like yesterday.

It's not about what the current players think, or how long they have been with the team. Where'd you get the idea that is what SOJ is about?!?!?

It's about what those players do. On the field. Like yesterday. THAT is SOJ. Not what they say about SOJ in camp or some boasting exercise.

And of course NO PLAYER is ever going to be quoted as believing in SOJ. They'd be fined or worse.

But do you think a player like say Sean Ellis might be wondering about it?

Just like it was comical to ignore the narrative of Peyton Manning as a choker...until he wasn't. Or "same old A-Rod" until he started hitting. Or the curse of Babe Ruth until one year Boston had a better pitching staff. This stuff is all created in fans' heads to add subtext to the games, which is fine. But to think that these narratives actually effect what happens on the field is ridiculous.

The Jets have been the Same Old Jets for 40 years because they haven't had a Super Bowl caliber team in that timespan. To me, it's more productive to look at which players are doing well and which ones need to be jettisoned than it is to whine "poor me!" But that's just my opinion. And that fact that this morning I've already had my Jets fandom questioned twice for it is stupid.

    +1

The guy only shows his face around here after the Jets' lose. I'd say what I really feel about him but he would just go crying to the mods again

Man, getting swept by the Dolphins is almost enough to turn me into a nay-saying darksider as well. Nothing I hate more than losing to the fish and getting swept is the ultimate downer. We could go 2-14, and as long as we beat Miami twice a year it would be good. lol

I feel the same way. I don't consider myself a darksider, but being swept by a not very good Miami team with the streak now at three in a row makes the world look very bleak, and dark.

I actually don't think these are the same old Jets. Those Jets would have quit after Greene's fumble.

H'mm funny I did not see any post from you after the Houston game that you were there like I was & posted such after the game. You ought to mapquest the mileage from Austin to Houston & back before you say what you said in ur post. Besides yourself the flash in San Antonio did not show up for the that game either. SOJs mmeans that year after year they bumble there way thru season & continue to be a non contender in the PO derby. If you can argue that this year is different then instead of your off handed remarks show all us how & where the NYJs will be contenders for this years SB

Yesterday I was in Philly & drove to my sons friends house in NJ so I could see the game as the game was not televised by CBS in Philly. It hurts me as much as it hurts U & every NYJ fan that they are a disgrace year after year & that is what SOJs stands for!

lol exactly. It's not like it's the curse of SOJ. It's more like, oh, the Jets f'd up again, ahh Same Old Jets. Oh the Jets got swept by the Dolphins (a team that's only won one game not against the Jets), Same Old Jets. Oh we were looking like a top tier team and fell apart? Same old Jets. When the unexpected happens and the Jets somehow find a way to lose a game that they should have won, Same Old Jets.

It's almost a comical way of summing up our frustrations.

    Riddle me this Batman.....

What other team, in the space of three weeks, Rushes for over 300 yards in one game, and holds an opponent to 104 offensive yards in another....

    And loses both?

    Only the SOJ.
