I agree but the CHAMP has a point with allowing CHAD throw a Hail Mary passs. It looked like a helicopter when it came out. It floated and had too much air under it! NE does not fear his arm! They played 8 and 9 man fronts all day long! We can not run against 9 man fronts. Who can?
Well if our CS was LOOKING ahead they would have already had CR warming up to chuck the rock the necessary 65 yds. You to sound like a paid hack of the NYJs BTW
What really did you expect? We all knew coming in that we weren't in the Patriots league as far as talent. Yesterday there were some encouraging signs and there were some frustrating moments, pretty much the norm for a rebuilding team, especially a rebuilding team going up against one of the best teams in the league. We are headed in the right direction,, we just need more talent to make the system work. I'll say this though, after two games I'd rather be in the Jets shoes than some of the other teams with first year HCs.
I have been one of the biggest critics of Pennington on this board. Besides his arm, I can't stand his deliberate release which is very slow. That said what he is doing is sliding in the pocket and picking up the right option to throw to. Ramsey has a big arm but he is even more delibrate than Chad with the ball and has much less pocket presence. He simply doesn't solve that problem and Clemens isn't ready to go up against the Pats. Dan Marino would have given us a better shot yesterday because he can flick the ball out 40 yards instantly, so would have Palmer who can move and rifle the ball while being hit. Those aren't the options and frankly you have to love the way Chad is playing so far.
GONNA chime in here without reading all the responses about the end of the game.... with no timeouts and needing a TD - you have to have a QB who can scramble AND make the "stick'' throws - meaning the 15-20 sideline throw that even if the defense is playing the sideline - the QB with a good arm and stick it in there into tight coverage. not to stick it to pennington but he doesn't have either of the above and it becomes obvious in certain spots. - throw in a rookie O-line and you have a very limited chance of being successful...... if it was a 3 pt game - a slightly differnet story - we have seen CP get it done but again - CP is NOT The QB you would prefer to have in that spot against a top 10 defense. jil
Yes but he has LIMITATIONS that really/truly hurt the team. Somebody has to make a real tough decision of what to do with him
Here is the problem. There is no one better to replace him with. We aren't in a position to get Brady, Palmer or Manning tomorrow. I doubt Pitt would trade Big Ben for him either? Take a look around the league, Pennington is pretty good in this league.
Penny has been better than anyone could have hoped for. There is no tough decision to make.. Until he gets injured he is the strating QB of the NYJs, the only QB on our roster that gives us a chance to win every week.. Find me a QB that is gonna lead his team to the tying TD when he has to go 91 yards with 1 minute left and no TOs.
Well the Oline was up against one of, if not the best D-Lines in the league. And contrary to what some on this board thought, drafting Brick and Mangold wasn't immediately going to make our Oline elite. They are extremely talented, but are playing the 2 most difficult O-Line positions and are still rookies. Also, the overall effectiveness of any Oline comes with chemistry, and this line has 3 new starters and new backups, it is going to take time to gel. They are rookies, 1st round draft choices or not, they need time. But they are definite improvements over last year, and much further along than I tought they would be at this point, which boads well for the future. The problem with the Oline was the condition it was left in from the past regime. Aged vets, and the depth filled with nowhere projects like Morley, Missant, Katnick, Snell and the like. Drafting Brick and Mangold, and cutting players like Missant and Morley only starts to address it. The run blocking was crap because the Jets don't have a good RT (Clement and Jones are just not good). Kendall is getting older and is hurt, and needs a replacement (once again Katnick and Jones are not the answers). And I have no idea what happened with Moore. Anyone who thought the Oline was going to be elite this year just because of Brick and Mangold were delusional (these rookies need time to develop and gel). RT, OG, and depth along the line need to be addressed. And you can thank Hermy and Bradway for that.
