Yea Richardson would be great. He is one of the drafts top talents and i dont think he falls to pick 16. I do think with the news of the Browns letting Hillis walk that the likleyhood of them taking Richardson raises significantly. Also outside the eagles, cowboys, and jags any of those other teams could use a RB like him.
So again... im all for Upshaw, but Mercilus did lead the nation in sacks, any one think he can transform into a 3-4 olb? and who thinks we can actually get Barron in the 2nd? Something tells me he will be long gone by the time we draft again in the 2nd.
I've already seen a couple mocks that have him slipping to us. Like I said if you look at the teams ranked 1-15 idk if anyone would take him save Cleveland. Obv someone can trade up for him, but I don't think its totally out of the question he falls.
Hightowers stock just really improved, hes probably the #2 or #3 ILB in this draft now. He really played well tonight and showed great play against the run, blitzing, and in zone. He's impressive.
Upshaw is a Rex kind of guy that is easy to see when he was up on stage...Too bad he probably gets himself drafted in the top 10 after this game
I fear that they may let Stevie Johnson go and draft Michael Floyd.... The need for OLB is huge but they have so few playmakers in the passing game that Floyd could be too good to pass up. (Taking JAX doesn't take Floyd which could happen)
Hey, Id love to pick up Stevie. But I know you love Floyd so I get your concern. I think with this draft so loaded with WRs they must take a dominant pass rusher first. They have no choice really its their #1 need. I still think Jax takes Jeffery, but if Floyd has a great combine he's a Jag.
This is why some part of me wanted him to have a mediocre to bad game... Well lets hope that the Bills feel some other positions are more pressing than OLB
I think we will take Upshaw. I want Barron, and I say make a play on Mario Williams. would be nice to have Barron & Upshaw but the chances are slim.
Barron will be over drafted. Unless you are looking for a project no safety in this draft should be drafted and start immediately. Unless they are extremely impressive but this draft is weak at safety. I like Barron but Id only draft him at the highest 3rd round, and he will exceed that in this draft because he played at Alabama. Upshaw could very well be the pick but his stock is rising everyday, he could become out of reach for us at 16. Mario Williams will be given a fat contract whether on the texans or another team, this team cant afford that unless we dont want to fill out the depth chart.
If Bell leaves and Martin is there it could very well be their pick, if not Mercilus could be picked, and If Stevie Johnson leaves a WR becomes their biggest need. Its not a lock for them to get an OLB but a very strong possibility.
So Im assuming that you’re on the Upshaw side instead of Mercilus? Can you just give a short opinion on what you think of them?
Sorry i didnt immediately respond to this, didnt see it till now. Yes and No. Right now I like Upshaw just a little bit more than Mercilus because of his consistent production and complete game at the OLB position, but its close. Thats not to say I dont respect what Mercilus did this year or doubt he can be an elite of a pass rusher, I just want to see more from the kid from the combine, interview reports, and see where his stock eventually ends up. That all can change my opinion about taking him over Upshaw. I think it kind of goes like this for me when I think of the players, ill list some things without making a huge explanation (If you need one Ill provide it). Upshaw: One of my favorite things about Courtney is his versatility, he can literally play all over, OLB, ILB, DE. He also has played in a 3-4 D his career at Alabama so there is no adjustment period. Rex loves versatile players, hed be Ideal for our D as he can fit into any scheme we play into. He is very strong and posses one hell of a bull rush yet has deceptive speed to his game. He can re route himself to make open field tackles and never gives up on plays. Lastly, he is a leader on the field and a captain on Alabama's D and if we are looking for disciplined and high character players, he can provide that. Mercilus: My favorite thing about Whitney is his vast amount of pass rush moves, usually a problem with a lot of rookie pass rushers is their lack of rush moves, well this kid has plenty and is very good at executing them. He has a great spin move, swim move, can bull rush, punches really well, uses his speed, and is always moving his hands around to shed the block. He is fast as hell of the edge, he has one of the better bursts off the line Ive seen in awhile. He is a bit shaky against the run but compensates well by making a fair amount of open field tackles. I could give you stats about each players but I feel like just explaining how I feel about them in my own mind would help you get your answer. In the end, both are great players, by April things could change but right now it is neck and neck.
