Have to arbitrarily limit myself to 3 picks to make it interesting; Terrence Tolliver, WR, LSU Ryan Winterswyk, DE/OLB, Boise St. Jeron Johnson, SS, Boise St. *** (I'm not a Boise St. grad)
1. Mark Herzlich, linebacker, Boston College 2. DeAndre McDaniel, safety, Clemson 3. Joe Lefeged, safety, Rutgers 4. Ian Williams, nose tackle, Notre Dame 5. DeAndre Brown, wideout, Southern Miss
Now that it is almost time to sign these guys, anyone's opinions change on who we should go after? So far if I had to pick three I'd go all defense with FS Deunta Williams, UNC (will have to sit for a year, but I feel he will be worth the wait) CB Kendric Burney UNC (I am gonna assume we resign Holmes and Edwards and let Cro walk. Let Wilson start opposite Revis and Burney may be able to slide into the nickel) OLB Pierre Allen Nebraska (one of the best pass rushing UDFAs who is worth a shot)
Allen's position projection flusters me at times, he's almost too big and slow for OLB, and needs more weight and strength to be a 34 DE. I guess you could call him a poor poor man's Calvin Pace...
Shut the fuck up. I'm still on the Joe Lefeged bandwagon and it has nothing to do with me being an undergrad alum and current grad student there.
DeAndre McDaniel would be great fit in Eric Smith's role. He's got the tools to develop into a very good strong safety in the NFL. Dude's just gotta get his head on straight. I feel like we say that about a lot of these prospects, but it's true. These kids are wasting their talents. There's some very good defensive talent available: GA Tech safety Jerrard Tarrant Rutgers safety Joe Lefeged Clemson safety DeAndre McDaniel North Carolina safety Deunta Williams Notre Dame defensive tackle Ian Williams North Carolina corner Kendric Burney Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich It's gonna be a lot harder for these undrafted guys to hold on to a roster spot with limited practice time. It'll be interesting to see which guys make it.
I was just listing my top available defenders - not necessarily saying the Jets should sign all of those guys, but Tarrant and McDaniel would be welcomed by me. Cook's got a future on this team if he keeps throwing his body around on special teams.
I figure we've got first dibs on Lefeged if we want him. The Giants drafted Tyler Sash this year and they're already pretty set at safety.
This team needs some bodies at the safety position. It would be a smart move for Lefeged to come here.
I know hes had alot of air time, but I really think that Herzlich is going to be the player of old, someone is going to hit jackpot with him.
I have begun updating my list of UDFAs for signings. If you learn of any moves before I do, please post them here.
DeAndre McDaniel to the Saints ...most of these guys are staying close to home. Hopefully that's a sign - Joe Lefeged would be a hell of a pick up for us.
