no way no how he would have been a better de than the 2 we have and had last year. i really cant understand how you could ever say that. he hasnt ever played 3-4 de so saying that is just a foolish thing to say. plenty will say he is too small to fat too this too that. ill leave that to them to say cause i dont always agree but you cant say that he would be better just like they cant say he cant play cause he is too short. its just a foolish comment. the de position was pretty solid last year with the 2 guys we have, drob would have been nothing more than a sub here and there for those guys. and as much as i like his motor and effort thats just not what you want to spend 9 or whatever million dollars on like we were scheduled to this year. it doesnt make sense in any way shape or form. im trying not to bash you but your comment before your last one didnt need to be said and will get you havoc from those that already dont care for you. you may want to go ahead and edit that for your own sake.
Ellis and Coleman are adequate, and will be better with Jenkins between them. Also, who's to say we won't go for a Dre Moore, Kendall Langford, or Kentwan Balmer this weekend?
^^^^ i hope we get one of them...and coleman did a good job last season and will be better with jenkins
I agree Coleman was adequate, but he was a little light in the pants dept. Mosely suprised at times, but Jets' need DE's that resemble what NE has up front...if they want to be dominant at line of scrimmage.
3-4 DE's don't just grow on trees. The 3 guys I listed were all very productive as school and fit the bill physically. The main problems with Coleman and Ellis last year was that D-Rob did not play well during the first half of the season. As he became more effective,m so did Coleman and Ellis. Having a tall, big guy like Jenkins will pay off immediately for us along the line.
...so the one clerk at Target says to the other, "Someone call an electrician, we need to fix the little light in the pants dept." BWAAAAAAHAHHHAHAHAAAAHAHA.......hehe....hmmm... I hate Draft week.
This means that DE's in a 3-4 defense are usually bigger/heavier players than the DE's in a 4-3 defense...asside from the differense in responsibilities. Usually DE's in a 3-4 defense are really players that normally play DT in a 4-3 defense. Look at the rosters of NE, Chargers & other 3-4 defensive teams & see the wieght differense....compared to the Jets' DE's. U can easily just look at the Pats'. So college DT/NT's will play DE in a 3-4 defense.
obviously this thread is idiotic, however i happen to think that the jets DEs are rather weak. ellis is undersized for the 3-4 and completely overrated as a football player. he's rather average for the position. coleman seems a bit more stout, but slower footed than ellis... neither are anything to get excited about, but they can certainly hold down the fort with jenkins playing between them.
Our least talked about need... I think coming out with a prospect like Dre Moore, Athyba Rubin, Kendall Langford, Briant Johnston, Jason Jones, Letroy Guion, DeMario Pressley, Nick Hayden, Marcus Harrison, or someone I'm not listing would be huge for us. We added Jenkins, but we definitely need a DE and theres alot of guys with potential.
I think some people equate 3-4 DE to sack numbers. No sacks, they must suck, which is not the case. With Jenkins in the middle the line will be better.
