If I were Washington, Laury and Jackson, I wouldn't be very comfortable. I'd be surprises if any of them make it through the day.
I'll still be rooting for Jackson over Coleman, and if not he can hopefully make it to the PS. Yeah you're right, I have no idea why I thought Howard. I forgot about Jarvis being waived.
I don't think washington is at risk. If shonn green gets hurt the jets need another hb who can pound it in there. I don't think woodhead or LT can do that. McKnight can't be trusted and can't do it anyway. It's possible connor might qualify. Depth at rb is a real concern for the jets given that green and lt have a recent injury history and it doesn't help that McKnight is using up a roster spot here.
Good post... maybe because I agree with everything you said! So, now the questions are (barring any FA pickups), do they bring Coles back? If they do, who gets cut? I guess Clowney is the gunner, and Coles doesn't play ST. That is the problem with bring Coles back IMO. TRich... I know how he is looked up to and is a leader on an offense that lacks in that area, and I know he doesn't get cut, but with Connor he is almost a part time player who also doesn't play ST. Can we afford to cut a guy who plays ST's for Coles at this point? Should Revis sign, I think Cole gets cut, we won't carry 7CB's. Personally, I think 4 TE's is too much, especially with 2 FB's. Does anyone know which of those 4 play ST's? I think Westoff is going to have a big say in any future cuts. We have too many position players who don't play for Westoff already.
That's the biggest doubt I have in the Woodhead/Washington "duel". Woodhead is favored by the CS and is versatile... but he's no power runner, and we need one in case Greene gets hurt. Washington IS a power runner but he offers less in ST and can't be used as a slot WR. We'll see what the CS prefers...
Rex made it clear on Hard Knocks that they would brings Coles back for the 2nd game since they don't have to guarantee his contract if they do that. So there is NO chance he's coming back now. Hopefully, no-one picks him up for the first game and guarantee his contract for the full year. We need him for the 2nd thru 4th game until Holmes comes back.
Washington made that big hit on teams a few weeks ago. Thats more on teams than Ive ever seen from Danny
It's ok for the jets to be a little light on receivers given that the jets have 2 rbs that can function as receivers. I also think keeping Cumberland was the right play given that he's a tight end with 4.4 speed and good hands. If they can develop him and he improves his blocking consider this - a 2 tight end offense with keller and cumberland with lt in the backfield and 2 wide receivers. This personal can flip easily to a 5 wide receiver set. How do you defend against this - for a 5 wide receiver set you'd typically go to a dime defense. If you bring a dime defense on the field then the jets go to a typical 2 tight end set and run it down your throat. Cumberland gives you the option of causing real matchup problems.
I'd really like Jackson to make the team, because he's a big corner, and he's looked pretty good, but the word is that he's PS bound, and that Woodhead has a place secured on the roster. Also, Coleman agreed to a pay-cut, but his contract is guaranteed, so he can't be released. EDIT: Didn't see that the final cuts were made this morning.
Washington looked solid on ST's, and Woodhead isn't going to be making any tackles on ST's. Cumberland can be our 6th WR if we need one.
Woodhead had a ST's tackle against the Giants, and a fumble recovery but I forget which week of preseason that was. Might have been the CAR game. I would still like to see Woodhead return a few more punts.
Iggy, he'll never be a special teams ace, he's just too small for that, but he is pretty fast. Is Clowney a better tackler than Woodhead? At least DW has one ST's tackle and a recovery. Clowney has one recovery and can't tackle grand mama. Woodhead's value lies in his versatility. In that way he is a bit like B Smith. Not the same players, I am not comparing them as ST's players, Smith is pretty freakin good. I'll also add this about Woodhead. What player was it when he walked past DW getting interviewed in the locker room? He walked by his locker and said "Woody can play." Might have been Cotch. In some ways I believe, DW is a leader on this roster. Ryan loves the kid. That comes from more than being "Rudy". He sets an example on this team. An example that the CS and his team mates take notice of.
I am all for bringing in Jarvis Green. Any specific reason why he was cut? That just seems rather surprising to me. Westhoff was on the radio down here saying that he had his work cut out for him on Special teams and that how the roster was constructed this would be his most difficult year. That was about 3 weeks ago maybe a little longer. Fast forward I have to believe that he is happy, well as happy as a curmudgeon like him can be. Special teams has looked real good in part and parcel to players like Laury, Washington, Conner, Smith, Kroul Mulligan etc. Hopefully they will be one of the strengths of the team. Last year they cost at least a couple of games.
Could it be that he hasn't bounced back from injury? What does that mean (for non-english speaking guys :smile?
I've already said I don't think Woodhead's job is at risk. I was responding specifically to the ST claim. I still think Clowney is gone for Coles.
