only one so far. I say so far because I think Marshall is going to test Revis again and might even catch a TD this time...
He has a chance, but it's not going to happen. '09 would have been the year. Regardless, he is the best defensive player out on the field every single Sunday, no bias.
Justin Smith is another strong candidate. I guess I'd go with him, Revis, Pierre-Paul and Suggs as the best four defenders this season.
Playing on a bad team should not go against someone's personal accomplishments. Just becaseu Allen's team sucked it up on third does not make the play he made on second down less impressive, it jsut shows the flaws in his team more strongly.
i have watched that marshall play 50 times, and it's not PI. for those who argue that it's PI... what is it that you expect a DB to do in that spot? he's literally in perfect position and the guy is running THROUGH HIM. if he doesn't grab a little jersey, marshall will literally run him over. NOT pass interference. so fuck you, francessa.
It was not PI. Francesser does not understand why it was okay what Revis did. Rodney Harrison, Jason Taylor and Cortez Kennedy had excellent seasons for bad teams. Thing was, those teams had good defenses. Can I say that the '11 Vikings have a good defense? Nope. Allen can take his 17, 18 or so sacks and go rope a cow with them.
What's positive to say when people make ridiculous statements. Revis Defensive Player of the Year? For what? Stevie Johnson ate him up. Bryant, Marshall all had big moments against him. He's obviously very good and last week vs. the Giants was awesome, but he hasn't been the best Defensive Player in the whole league this season. If anything, he got thrown at this season more then any other. You got other players close to 20 sacks this season.
Sacks might just be the most overrated stat in football. See Jason Babin. The guy is a journeyman for a reason.
What is the worth or Revis shuting down a receiver if we give up first downs to a TE or anotehr receiver. Bad play by others does not diminish his play.
Are you serious? The Jets have won games because of Revis' quality performances. Can you say the same about Allen and the Vikings?
He should have won it in 09 he was better than Woodson that year and he was the main reason we had the number 1 ranked defense. However these awards are often lifetime achievement awards. So 09 was revis break out year so it's not surprising he was overlooked. I don't think he gets it this year because there are others that deserve it but even without the flashy stats I think revis will get one befor it's all said and done. The people who vote for these awards bow how good revis is.
Agreed. Woodson got the lifetime achievement award in '09 because he had a great season and his team made a run at the end. Yep. Along about 2016 it will occur to a lot of the voters that they have had Revis in the top 5 on their ballot a lot but never #1. He'll have had a great year that particular year, although nothing like '09, and he'll get the award because a lot of people who might have put him 4 or 5 make him 1 instead.
I think Justin Babin has a much better shot than Revis, but I would give London Fletcher my vote. That old timer play one hell of a year.
The DPOTY should be the one that has had the most impact on his team's great defense and on the NFL as a result. You should not be able to win DPOTY on a non-playoff team or a non-great defense for the same reason you shouldn't be able to win OPOTY on a non-playoff team or a non-great offense. If you were really that good your team wouldn't have missed the playoffs and/or had a non-great performance on that side of the ball. Some people would say MVP is the award for the player who contributes the most to making his unit and team great but really the DPOTY and OPOTY awards should be there also.
