He didn't put a good enough team on the field to blow up. IMO And he certainly isn't to blame for everything but being the GM the"the buck stops there".
The roster is a lot better now then it was last season. We aren't that far away from getting back to the playoffs with a good draft and the right moves in free agency .Pryor and Millner getting better will be huge so will seeing what we have in Mcdougle and Shaq Evans.Let's just pray we hire the right coach
I'm just worried a great GM candidate won't want to come here after seeing what happend to John Idzik who got run out of town after two seasons
Idzick was far from being good. Say all u want about his draft but it didn't help squat this season. All his fault? No but being hard headed and stingy with surplus money didn't help his cause. The GM we hire (IMO) couldn't be any worse than Idzick. That is of course dependent on Woody, unless he hires another GM with the same pro scouting experience as Idzick.
I'm with you its beyond me how anyone could defend Idzik. Yeah all that dough he held on to didn't do him a lick of good. His drafts were horrible and his free agency signings were worst. The jets need a player evaulator and one that has to hit the ground running. Because with Idzik bombing with 20 picks in 2 years he has set this franchise back at least 3 years. I'm so glad he is gone but now we are in trouble because Woody is looking for another GM and he'll get it wrong again.
What color is the sky in your world? The season is over, our showing was pathetic, and it had everything to do with our lack of personnel. If you can't understand that, and that it is the fault of the GM that we didn't have the players, then maybe you should start watching a new sport - one you can understand.
It's a lot of crap and an excuse for the poor performance of the head coach. Idzik did sign free agent talent including playmakers like Decker, Johnson, Harvin etc. The bulk of the money so they could re-sign Rex's D-line and Harris. You'd be the first complaining if they let Wilk etc walk because they had no money to pay them.
Again I'll refresh your memories. Stupid trades by Idzik like the Bills trade up for Sammy Watkins: 0. Smart trades for playmakers: at least 2. Draft picks: over 2 seasons every player is still in the NFL except one: Tajh Boyd, Rex's designated coaches pick. Reason for selecting him: Rex's son likes him. Final grade on draft: Incomplete. He got basically Bs by experts after the draft. Cap space left: in a position to re-sign star players like Wilk. Mistakes: Patterson.
the issue is with this statement with all the smart signings why were david nelson and greg salas starting a game together at the same time? where was a decent back up at db? why did he not contact Wilkerson's camp about a contract extension? possibly alienating one of young good players? I agree you dont over pay but you need to keep your own
You can cherry pick with any team and find multiple holes. In other words you're not going to be great at every position even after the draft and free agency. Why didn't the Cardinals get a better Qb to start yesterday. Why didn't the Steelers have better Dbs after injuries. Btw Idzik had contacted agents of upcoming free agents and was in the process of discussing deals. And there's always the franchise tag.
Idzik was a terrible GM an will never be a GM in the NFL again, I am happy he's gone although I found the fireidzik campaigns an embarrassment for our franchise.
ok so folowing the theory that idzik did a good job why are there more holes on this team and more discord because of the "lack of talent" on the roster? and as far as picking these hole wide receiver was a hole going into free agency and the draft and he waited till the 4th round to select Evans who then spent the entire yr on the ir? He also created holes the corner situation is directly on him did he solve the ol problem? at best he stayed status quo sorry but he did a horrible job finding players that needed to make an immediate impact for his plan to work none of these players did. 5 players from 20 picks that made an impact not counting Geno because he just went out and found sanchez 2.0 two trades ivory and harvin and harvin may be a one yr rental and is perceived as a panic move to try to help a struggling qb. Something he should have addressed in free agency. people say it was too early to grade the draft but when you look at all of the moves it was the right time while there is still something to salvage before he ran off wilkerson and other players by being cheap.
Ok the Jets wanted Watkins but weren't willing to trade up: smart move. They decided instead to use their first pick on the secondary for a Rex-style player. Instead of a wide receiver. A definite need. His 2nd round pick was a good receiving tight end. His 3rd pick a cornerback. All needs. And in the 4th round two wide receivers. Easy for you to say after the draft when guys we didn't select had good years. Let's see in 2 years who the really good players were but you can't accept that.
Nobody but Idzik and Rex wanted Milliner, McDougle and Evans. This shitty GM and HC had to go. Watch the games.
Kraft made the mistake of interfering with Parcells and Bill bolted out of there quick as he could. Kraft admits his mistake and does not interfere. He's in the meetings so he knows what's going on.
