Agreed that it should be up to the players. However if I was going to name captains as the coach: Offense: Curtis and Kendall (can't give it to Chad with his uncertainty) Defense: Ellis and Vilma (might be early for Vilma, but MLB is the QB of the D) Special Teams: Kenyatta Wright
Martin, Vilma, Ellis, and D'Brick (his arms are so long he can shake hands while standing on the sidelines).
I'm almost positive Vilma was named captain on D midway through his rookie year. Granted, that is the exception, not the rule, but it does happen if a player is miles ahead of everything else you have. Not to mention Vilma is one of the most intelligent people to ever don a green and white jersey.
Whomever the starting quarterback that week will take the coin flip. And I bet he respects Martin's leadership and the fact that he's been around this ball club for ages. Starting QB, Martin, Vilma, Ellis, and a special teamer. I even saw Rashad Washington in one of the flips as a special team leader.
Lets see if Schlegal makes the team before making him a captain ok buddy!! So because someone said he has good character, all of a sudden he is going to be the leader of our team as a rookie? Come on man, this is just BS.
Unless the guy loses a limb between now and the first game of the season, you can bet your bottom dollar that he will make the team. The FO will have egg on their face if he's cut before the season. As far as him being named a captain - I agree, that's just ridiculous.
I would send one player out onto the field to strike terror into the opposition, and it would be JAMES DEARTH, the greatest Long Snapper to ever bend at the waist.
LOL at schegel. How the hell is he going to be a captain lol. Not even D'Brick. I dont think it is wise at all to put a rookie as captian lol. Also it gives out a bad image of the Jets to other teams
