So, how much cap space do we have at the moment?

So it's okay to give astronomical amounts to a guy like Revis who has held out on the organization, and not give Wilkerson, a guy who has been loyal to the franchise his due? I don't think that message will resonate well throughout the organization.

Depending on how they calculate who should be included the franchise tag could be as much as $16.2M for Mo next season. That's the average of Suh, Watt, Mario Williams, Jason Pierre-Paul and Robert Quinn. I'm not sure who would get included in the calculation for a 3-4 DE. They'll either break it down to interior linemen and edge rushers or just lump them all together. Not sure exactly how it is done.

If it is just interior linemen then the number is more like $14.6M.

For a guy who will never give you 20 sacks. I know that is not the function of a 3-4 end. A lot of that function is tying up blockers. I do not see giving him money like that.

What will resonate is that the team does what it can to get better, not sit on a ton of money. They'll get Wilkerson done. If it takes franchising him and working out a deal then they'll do that.

They can always franchise him just to buy time to negotiate the extension.

Revis is by far the better investment. If mo wants all world money he should play like it. I think he is neutralized far to often to be comfortable with him getting overpaid. I would offer 11-12 per at most and trade him if he doesn't accept it.

You forget that it took the Patriots years to finally build back up that talent, just because they turn 30 doesn't change the fact that you are cutting a key part of your team

Agreed, but since he's either our best or second best player behind Richardson, maybe they should make some ties.

By the last count, I think they had something like $.32 left under the cap, not counting the amount set aside to sign the draft picks. ;)

I agree but he is still under contract for this season plus we can always tag him next season

True, but lots of players don't like being franchised and having that happen alienates them towards the team. I still maintain that's not the best way to treat your players. If you can't come to an agreement with a player, I think it's better to just work out a sign and trade deal.

Colon has been added but Cro, Gilchrist, and Purdam are not accounted for in our $13,942,138 cap space figure (including dead money and our upcoming 2015 draft picks).

It seems that we have more than enough room for Kendrick Ellis.

If Tanner Purdum is the difference between us being able to offer Hardy a 1 year "prove it" deal at a big discount to be a backup, I'll be royally pissed.

Interesting that they put the majority of Gilchrist guarantee into 2016. They'll probably do the same thing with Cromartie. If they put say 10mm into 2016 for Cro, they'll be at 132mm for 2016 with little fat to cut.

Compare to Buff at 110 and Miami at 117 at this time.

Conclusion: The FO has decided to go homegrown on QB until at least 2017. Pure speculation.
