IYHO what is there to write about a team who was 4-12 last year, has no playmakers, no pass rushers, a QB with a pea shooter for a arm, A questionable DBF & father time as a RB?
So what College FB & the NFL is like nite is to day. See Balir Thomas, DeW, BT Russell Carter, Johnny Lam Jones just to name a few who were sure shots & became flops
H'mm go back in the history books for Dave Cadigan & Marvin Powell those were spin to us a "book end" OL & we would be set for the next 15 years. All I am saying is before crowing about anything is let them 1st play. Take all the love for JV that some members express here who leads us in tackles but most of them are 5 or more yards d/field. Do you think that is good? If not do you wonder why they point out such a stat? Wait until they PRODUCE year after year before blowing the trumpets
You should go be a Dolphins fan. They only support their team when they are winning, you will fit right in.
Instead of telling me who to root for why not reply to my post. If I want to amend who I root for I certainly can do so all by myself. Having trouble facing up to the stark hard facts of the present condition of the NYJs?
I say that I agree with the picks and now I am crowing and blowing trumpets. Champ did you even read my post. Because I didn't see any crowing or trumpet blowing. I said so far so good. You are trying to read between the lines I guess.
Actually it was Powell and Chris Ward that were the bookends and we were set for a good 5 years. They did anchor the line that went to the AFC Championship game (Mud Bowl) and Powell was a Pro-Bowl T for many years. Cadigan came after Powell and Ward left and while decent enough wasnt near Powell.
Yep but I did not include Ward as he was not a #1 pick while Powell & Cadigan were. All I am saying is spin from the FO/media is one thing production is something completely different & before anointing these picks with gold stars we should 1st see if they are players or not.
I am translating what you said into very simple English & all I am saying is NOTHING should be said until we see them perform. If you did not see it ESPN analyzed Fergy by using tapes of his games & said his use of his hands is very poor plus he does not have the footwork to handle speed rushers. They also said that no team should have passed up somebody who can possibly get them into the EZ (ML) to be exact. I have kept this thread cause I think that ESPN when it comes to OLman & the way they presented it are making a pretty good case that Fergy will be a lot less then the present spin is just like JV is & Cadigan & Powell were long before him.
Chris Ward was a #1 pick Champ. 1978. 1 (#4) Ward, Chris OT Ohio State 2 (#31) Merrill, Mark LB Minnesota 3 (#61) Shuler, Mickey TE Penn State 4 (#88) Donnell, Dodie RB Nebraska 5 (#113) Sidler, Randy LB Penn State 6(#140)Buf Jackson, Bobby DB Florida State 6 (#142) Robinson, Gregg DT Dartmouth 7(#169)NO Armstrong, Levi DB UCLA 7 (#170) Earley, James RB Michigan State 8 (#197) Gaffney, Derrick WR Florida 8(#203)Phi Mock, Mike LB Texas Tech 8(#213)Min Eppes, Roy DB Clemson 9(#225)Buf Grant, Reggie DB Oregon 9 (#227) Hutton, Neil DB Penn State 10 (#254) Richardson, Louis DE Florida State 11 (#281) Ryan, Pat QB Tennessee 12 (#311) Williams, Alan P Florida
Yep sure was missed him in looking up my reference sheet so he to falls into that catagory of cant miss that missed. At least that was the spin of the FO & media at that time
Here we go again. While I admit the attacks on people's "ideas" are sometimes funny, they take away from the thread..
My point was the Oline had to be addressed whether that be FA or draft. And I still say that the FO took the best Olineman available at each point in the draft when we had our picks. Nobody has a crystal ball, so you can only go by your scouting reports, workouts and interviews. I was shocked that we did not go for the big splash pick at number 4, but it was a pleasant surprise, because I felt we had to draft for need and not necessarily the best player available. I don't believe that you can win in the NFL without a solid Oline and Dline. The game is won or lost in the trenches. And that was a glaring weakness for the Jets last season. While it was one of our major strengths just the year b4. I also don't see what the problem is with evaluating each stage leading up to the start of the season. I am merely giving my opinion on our draft, and I can't wait til training camp, so I can start reading the reports given by our many contributors. And Champ you will always see the down side of every situation dealing with the Jets.
Yes, your reply is dodging the question.... You ask people to answer your questions, but ALWAYS fail to answer questions. Congrats once again Capt. Smoke screen....
Exactly. Good to see those guys get some recognition from the old guys on the board. Powell was a stud OT and Ward was solid but not at the level of Marvin Powell. They had a pretty good line for several years with those two anchors. Hence the handle I have.
Will just look who was available & whose position is the MOST important & there is your answer. I guess common sense has passed you by
So you can not give a name? There were ALOT of people available at 4. You are a broken record, sir...
EXACTLY what you posted is what the NYJ organization wants you to believe & is EXACTLY what was said when we drafted Powell/Ward & Cadigan. It is history just repeating itself. It is like a book that has a new cover but has the same old text which = the same old BS. New regime same old NYJs sorry to say. Also, it appears you are completely discounting ESPN evulation of Fergy
