Pieces dont fall into place. They need to be put in the right place and coached up to succeed. I want to see this CS do a MUCH better job next year with whatever they have, and whoever they decide to keep on the team.
I'd be much happier if they just had a higher ratio of talent to JAG's and enough depth not to roll over and die if an unfortunate series of injuries were to occur.
I'm with you 100% on that. The honeymoon ends this year for Mangini and Company. The most disappointing thing for me last year was that I felt we had the talent. Okay, so Clark and Clement and guys like that weren't going to be colossal no matter how much coaching, but we did have decent talent and that's what was so puzzling about 4-12. The other complete monkey wrench was Pennington's performance. I know... no O-line... but there was poor decisionmaking going on too. So yeah, that's not coaching's fault. But a lot of the rest of it was. I feel like they should have been able to do more with what we had. The CS really has to pick it up this year and get more results with what they have or the fans are going to go berserk.
I guess I have the same feeling everybody else here has. I hate that we can't run the ball when we need to. I hate that we can't stop the run when we need to, although it seemed a little better towards the end of the season. I hate that we're considered "soft". I just want to see us take some steps to fix that. Forget cornerbacks or flashy wide receivers. I want us to be able to run and stop the run. If we start there, we can be good, someday. Otherwise we'll just be stuck in this boom/bust cycle we've been stuck in.
Well in defense of 4-12...we coulda, shoulda, woulda won a couple more games but for dropped passes (the Ravens and Skins come to mind).
Yeah, I do think pragmatism is needed to deal with both the draft and free agency. But you don't overpay when the market demands it. You have to be an educated consumer in both of the available "meat markets".
I think Chad's performance last year was pretty consistent with his performance in other games where the Jets were overmatched by the other team. The difference is that that category was a handful of games in the regular season in most seasons and a playoff game late even in the good ones. Last year the Jets were physically overmatched by just about every team they faced. They won a surprise game against Pittsburgh because Pittsburgh was going through a 3 game funk on offense that was just horrible. They scored 3 points on Miami the week after the Jets.
Miami scored 0. That game had the worst weather conditions of the season. Very wet field, tons of mud, DL's dominated... We legitimately beat Pittsburgh. They scored 31 points the week before and 38 the week before that. Do you have a thing for downplaying everything good that happens under Mangini?
Defending 4-12 in any way, shape or form is pathetic. You seem to have your head so far up his ass you cant accept any criticism of him.
True...constantly whining about it is what real winners do. Maybe because this right here: was either completely made up, and either way was just completely bullshit. What 3 game offensive slump for the Steelers? They scored 31 and 38 in the 2 games before us, and 24 right after the Miami game. Does he explain why those 3 points the Steelers scored were the only points in that game? And unlike you guys, I haven't been 1 sided about Mangini. Why? Because thats retarded and he actually has done way more good than bad. You guys choose to pathetically whine, cry, and judge him on one (bad) season....and somehow have completely forgotten about '06. Because "2 years is enough"...seeing as you all know being former coaches and GM's and going through the struggles of a total rebuild... But you're right...I have my head up our HC's ass because I refuse to buy into the bullshit a small group of arm chair GM's constantly want to preach. I don't treat him like he can do no wrong, but I also don't treat him like he can't and hasn't done any right.
Now, Jetcane, you have a point there. I think the exit of Tony Wise is advised, for sure. Also, I would like to see a lot more discussion about the gd STRENGTH coach as well. Only then should we worry about the FA and the draft...
