In the case of Snacks I don't consider 2nd round being less than his replacement value. He's a fan favorite but he's replaceable.
I think some people here are undervaluing Snacks. He has been an amazing NT. Some Jets fans may be spoiled because we generally have had very successful NT's. But bottom line - I wouldn't take anything less than a 1st for him.
No one will trade a first for him. A 2nd maybe but he is a 2 down player. Run stuffing DT are not as important like in 2000. Since 2000 there are 20 veteran players traded for 1st rnd picks. Most of them last less than 3 years on their new team. If someone is stupid to offer the 1st take it and run Keyshawn Johnson Joey Galloway Ricky Williams Kevin Carter Trent Green Drew Bledsoe Coles Peerless Price John Abraham Jared Allen Roy Williams Deion Branch Randy Moss Jay Cutler Jason Peters Richard Seymour Carson Palmer Percy Harvin Revis Trent Richardson A few panned out but of someone os dopey to offer a first take it and run.
Trent Richardson was a bad player before he got traded and he never improved. If anything your Revis example is exactly why we shouldn't let Harrison go. We trade Revis and get Millner/ Saunders while Pats have a Super Bowl. There's no way to know that the first round pick will be better than Harrison.
Revis lasted one year and we got richardson. We killed that trade. Bucs got nothing. Revis might only last one season on the pats. He was part of a team. You think we would have a winning record with him? Another thing to look at that list. Never has a DT vet been traded for a 1st rnd pick. You have to do it. Its not like Snacks is all world. But no team is stupid to offer a first. So that arguement is moot.
March 9th is the date that they have to decide looking at it more and more it will probably be a 2nd rnd tender. No one will give up a 2nd for him. And have fun making a deal since we have tons of cap and thanks for giving him a long term deal for us to match. Last time a DT was traded for a first was Dan Wilkinson but he played DE in the 4-3. So he is like Wilkerson which they better extend,
Pats are looking for Wilforks replacement....someone give Kraft a call edit: haha in just after Hasty. Their 1st round pick is just one tic off a 2nd round pick
Starting NT that will stay dominant for good 5-6 years... and you are going to throw that away for 2nd round pick? Are you fucking nuts? 2x 1st rounders are not sufficient for that kind of talent loss, morons.
In an ideal world, I would keep Snacks. But we live in a salary cap league and you can't have that much money tied into the d-line. With Wilk asking for JJ Watt money and Richardson's deal approaching soon, it would be wise to trade Harrison while his value is high. The extra pick gained can be used on the offense or another area. I love Snacks but I'm thinking long term here
A top-7 run stuffing 3-4 NT in his prime is replaceable? Who is going to replace him adequately at the same cost? Danny Shelton?
He is not going to cost that much. The team blew $3 M on 0 total games of Dmitri Patterson. They gave away $5 M to Mike Vick. So if you are Mike Macc, you are thinking $4 M per, say, for your young, homegrown 3-4 run stuffing NT would be too much?? That makes no sense. If you are concerned about a few pennies, just cut Quincy Enunwa or some other overpaid scrub at the bottom of the roster.
