Who is out there that can provide equal production for less money as a 3-4 space eating run stuffing NT? Snacks has already proven himself. Familiarity and continuity on the line are important. The DL is the strongest part of the team. You don't just weaken your strongest link without having a very good, specific reason for it. And that reason has to be better than wanting to be cheap and play hardball over a few bucks.
What happened to the days when a player and his agent simply went to the front office and worked out/negotiated a contract and stopped with all this unintelligent posting on social media?
Agreed 100%. It's got to be Woody. For some reason he seems hell bent on playing hardball with every single homegrown talent -- except Sancho of course -- we have. If it wasn't for this approach, Revis would still be here, Mo would have been locked up 2 years ago at a lower rate than it will cost now, we wouldn't have had to deal with Dee Milliner and Dmitri AWOL, and this Snacks issue would never arise. I just don't get it. Woody, quit being a cheap bastard.
Well a few things here, and I want to say right off the bat I'm not shooting down your theory: We don't know what this Instagram post even meant. So really we are all freaking out for nothing, which is what we love to do anyway, right? I completely agree that most should be locked up already. That should've been done long before now. I would hope they get it done before free agency so they know how much money they have to play with. If it was Woody that made the call on Revis, and it probably was, that is the one and only thing he's gone right. We were trying to rebuild and Revis wanted a ridiculous contract. We avoided the terrible contract and ended up with the best offense of player in that years draft. All of this could be solved if snacks would just come out and say he was posting some of his favorite lyrics…
I wouldn't be opposed to getting a first round pick for him. Having said that, I don't believe it's aimed at the Jets necessarily, but quite possibly due to him being a UDFA in 2012.
If he's questioned about the quotes you really think he'll say yes its about my current contract situation? There's nothing that can be confirmed here.
Snacks has been a very good player for the Jets, but I would trade him for a 1st round pick. Finding a run stuffing NT to play and be effective between Wilkerson and Richardson shouldn't be hard to find.
I'm not sure how it works, jets will tender him with a first round pick and then if they don't match his offer from another team. They get s first rounder. I assume they would plug Ellis in and see if he can be more than a rotational player. I don't think anyone will give up a first rounder, so hopefully they do the right thing by him prior to him becoming an unrestricted fa.
I really would love for Snacks to stay he's our one diamond in the rough guy we have found who has panned out in a big way
Nobody will give up a first. I don't think anyone will give up a 2nd for a 2 down player. But I would slap the first round tender on him, don't want to fuck up like we did with Coles back in 2003, but we have a ton of cap space so this shouldn't be an issue. The other team can try to work out a deal. Like we did with Ivory who was tendered a 2nd rnd pick but we worked out a deal where it only costed us a 4th. But at this point we don't need to trade Snacks.
[QUOTE=" You don't just weaken your strongest link without having a very good, specific reason for it. [/QUOTE] And they probably do. And if you can get the necessary production for less, then you don;t fuss about overpaying someone. You do not know what Snacks wants.
Bottom line is we have a new coach and a new GM and they are not obliged to love the players they are inheriting as much as we do. And they are far less likely to overrate them than a diehard fan is.
but that isn't the point. we're not talking about liking him enough to give a new extension, its about tendering him and keeping a starter here for a fair 3 million or less or getting something in return if he's offered any unsavory deal, or if they just want another high pick. it would be negligent not to tender Harrison at this point.
