After enough losing, you just don't want to put the same product back on the field. I don't think anyone "hates" Sanchez, but it's apparent the coaches have had doubts about Sanchez for a long time and it wouldn't be surprising if ownership did as well.
I almost can't believe I'm saying this but you should be reminded about that "loser's" overall record (including playoffs) in comparison to the Buffalo Bills' post-Jack Kemp/Jim Kelly QB regimes.
If that loser was 6-2 lifetime against my team, I too would be on his team's message board recommending that he is not brought back.
Loaded might have been to strong of a word. But in 2010 we had a dominant O-Line, running game (with a back who could sneak out of the backfield and catch some passes in Tomlinson), we had a good receiving tight end in Keller, and we had Braylon, Tone, and Cotchery at receiver. While neither one of those receivers are elite they were all above average at that time in their careers. I do believe that Sanchez with some talent could definitely improve our offense beyond what we have seen this season with Geno. But I don't trust Sanchez. I just think we should look at other options out there first. Would I take him back next year? I mean it's better then the current alternative but I guess we'd have to see how the off season shapes up first and who is and isnt available.
First off you did not say someone is better. You said someone else "deserves" a shot. If we were going by merit, an argument could be made that the guy who QB'd the team to 2 AFCCG "deserved" as much a shot as anyone. Second, if someone is indeed it will bear itself out in competition. Why does all the Suckchez folks so afraid of him competing for the job? He sucks right? There are other guys that are better right? Then, bring them in and let them them compete. Then everyone will get what they "deserve".
Woody has no one to blame but himself. I presume that he signs off on all contracts. If he doesn't, that's his fault to.
I don't see why it has to be Sanchez as the veteran on the roster next season. He missed the entire year, and is coming off of shoulder surgery and a 2012 where he may have been the worst starting QB in football. Why is that even an option for us? Yes, we keep Geno around, but why not bring in a McCown-type or another veteran that either played well this year or simply didn't suffer a season-ending injury. I know McCown is older, but good play is good play, and he showed that this season. I haven't seen Sanchez play well since 2011, and he was never very good to begin with.
And I told you what I meant by saying "deserves a shot". Obviously I want the best player playing at the position. I don't think Sanchez is a good option. I don't like him very much as a player. I watched him play for 4 years. Simple as that. I don't think anybody is afraid of having Sanchez compete, most people just dont think he is worth giving a shot at this point. Been there, done that. However, if he is named the starter next year i'll be rooting my ass off for him.
I know you do not like Sanchez; it comes out through your pores when you and other like you offer up what on the surface appears to be rational and objective analysis/suggestions. Hey, I don't like Stephen Hill. I would very much want the FO to bring in other WRs via the draft and FA this offseason. I don't need the team to release Hill in order for that to happen. My expectation, more so hope, would be that those WRs would be better than Hill and thus outperform him in an open competition. Then, they could release Hill. A team as historically bad as us should not have the luxury of not checking under every rock or not leaving the door cracked open for any possibilities no matter how improbable. Sanchez making an Alex Smith like turn for the better or Stephen Hill realizing his potential are those types of improbable scenarios. There's no need to eliminate those scenarios right off the bat if it doesn't hurt you.
My point was of all the people that will be available in the upcoming FA. Sanchez has one of the best careers to date from any of them, and regardless of what you say probably has more upside then any other FA we can get in here. On top of that there's a good chance we can get him for cheap to let him compete. All the other FA's we're going to have to pay an arm and a leg for.
Breaking News: The Buffalo Bills have just signed Mark Sanchez to a 3 year deal to compete with Ej Manuel.. Book it my friend.. It will happen.
The only career game Suckchez would have against us would be a valiant 6 INT game breaking his previous record of 5.
I'm not interested in careers, NFL is a what have you done for me lately league. In 2012 Sanchez was terrible and in 2013 he didn't play because of injury. There will be affordable free agent veterans who have played better the past 2 seasons and are hungry for an opportunity to start. Plus they won't be hated by the majority of the fanbase. There's no reason to ever trot Sanchez out under center for us again, there just isn't.
It is rationale and objective...Do you think I have something personally against the guy? Cause I don't. I just want a competent QB playing back there and I dont think he is that guy. I don't think overall he is very good. Nobody is saying don't check under every rock. People (myself included) are just throwing out names of QB's around the league we would rather see here then Sanchez. We might not be in play for any of them. If thats the case and there really is nothing more appealing out there then i'd say bring Sanchez back and draft a QB. It's better then just turning things over next year to Geno or that drafted QB (if that happens). By going out there though and looking at backups on other teams that is checking under every rock like your talking about. Sanchez is something we know, people on this board are saying lets look at all possibilities. The people who just want to bring back Sanchez and give him the job because he was the QB of a team that won 4 playoff games (as if that makes him automatically great) are the ones not interested in looking at all possible alternatives.
The whole point of this thread is that he's the best option we're gonna find for cheap IF he restructures .. If he refuses then he's gone. simple as that. No one is saying to hand him the job. Just give him a chance to compete with whoever else we have . Seems like so many people just want him gone for him to be gone. Like he's holding a roster spot we can fill with a future HOF'er for cheap next year. Truth is I think he's going to be the most motivated out of any of the available qbs and already has a year under his system. If he sucks and geno beats him out we lost nothing. If he turns it around geno is now our cheap backup / pistol QB. If Sanchez sucks again, geno gets another year to prove if he isn't or is. The important part is if we go into next year with those 2 Qbs the chance of us having a greater supporting cast of players rises dramatically. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Smith and Sanchez means another year of mediocre at best QB for the jets I am sick of it the jets haven't had a franchise QB since Joe Namath and that's why we haven't won a super bowl enough is a enough we need a real QB
