So what do you think will happen with the Seattle visit Abe had today? Did they: A) laugh at his $18MM guarantee, we're back at square one B) Talk him down in price, their number 1 and 4 picks are on their way to us? C) Other
we just need to swap players straight up. abe for schaub. they get a player with durability issues and wants a huge contract, we would get a starting QB who doesnt cost that much
Basically, what their doing is giving you their 2nd and Schaub. And we are switching their 1st rd picks. Besides we want to trade down anyway. Take it
Lets just say for the hell of it Schaub and Abe are equal value, which they are not, and just look at the pick part of the trade. We are getting a mid 2nd roudn pick to trade down 11 spots, not only 11 spots, but from the top of the draft to the middle. Usually in past years, for someone trade up from Let's say 9 to 7, it would cost a HIGH 2nd round pick to do so....then if you throw in the fact that Abe is one of the best DE's in the league and Schaub is an unproven back up QB.....
They'd also be getting a Pro-bowl sack machine, who offenses must gameplan around, and we'd be getting a QB who has started less games than Bollinger.
im not denying that abe is a beast when healthy. but hes been hurt half of his career. ATL wont part with schaub cause he's good. why do you think mangini wants him. he torched the NE defense. schaub is better than vick. but vick is the most marketable QB in the league ATL loves him, and he's not that good. but he's fun to watch and thats why schaub doesnt start over him.
this is what the jets want to do, read this article... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2368971
schaub vs NE 18 for 34 298 yds 52.9 3td 0int 112.1 rating. granted they lost. but thats against tom brady. if atl would've had the ball last then they would've won. in his first career start against the two time defending champions at the time
I'd like to hear the opinions on something like this: NYJ trade John Abraham and 07 4th rd ATL trades 06 2nd rd , 06 3rd rd, 07 2nd We get no 1st round picks for Abraham this year, but we get a lot of pieces to help us rebuild for the future. ATL keeps Schaub and their 1st round pick, and also get a pick back to replace the one traded in 07.
Can you judge a player on just one game? As I recall, Chad had a superb game against NE his first time around, but stunk up the joint during the next few encounters. I suppose it's sort of like new pitchers...they take you by surprise since you're not sure what they're capable of, but once you see enough of them, you can gameplan against them. I'd like to see Shaub play well consistently before deeming him our quarterback of the future. Edit: I looked it up. Chad's first game against NE: 70% pass completion percentage, 285 yards, 3 TD, and no INTs. The next 3 games he played against NE: 643 yards, 1 TD, 7 INTs.
Basically you suggesting that we give them Abraham and our 4th rd pick 2 freakin years now. oh and by the way, sign Abraham to a monsterous contract w/16-18 million in guaranteed money. Meanwhile, we get their 2nd, 3rd picks in '06 and a 2nd rd next year? I'm a huge Jets fan, but I would like what you're smoking! Okay, tell me who else will give us this because it won't be the Falcons. But its good to dream.
No unless the falcons add a 3rd or a 1st next year or something. The current deal is a ripoff. If they sweetened it up, it might be a good deal for us.
Michael Smith reported it on ESPN about 10 minutes ago. he didn't mention any of the specifics stated in this thread but he said we're interested, along with Tenn, Minn, Baltimore and one other team. a team like Tenn is threatening because they may trade Volek and their R2 pick (an early pick) for Shaub which is a better offer because Atlanta only gives up Shaub and still gets a back-up to Vick, which is what they feel they need. maybe packaging Brooks Bollinger is what it will take to get Shaub. cheers
Ok, change it to an 07 3rd rd pick, or that and a later pick, or something else. I admit I was being overly optimistic. I was just trying to think of some sort of deal that did NOT include the Falcons 06 1st round pick or Schaub. Many on here feel that one of those pieces would HAVE to be included. The main part of the deal is ATL's 06 2nd + 3rd plus a day 1 pick from 07 for Abe and a later pick. Are you saying Abe isn't worth ATL's 2nd and 3rd rd picks this year? Here's a tweak: ATL send 06 2nd rd, 06 3rd rd, 07 3rd rd NYJ send Abraham, 06 4th(Herm) Is that still way far off of Abe's value?
I back away from the table and help Tenn get this done. We would most likely get Leinart at 4 if this happens.
