No, I think we had a great draft for a team in its first rebuilding year. We spent two first round picks solidifying the trenches and drafted a potential franchise QB. At the same time, we took some chances on potential playmakers with Brad Smith and Washington. Some of our draft picks will unfortunately not pan out, but our rookie FO showed that they have a clear plan for the future and are trying to bring a winning philosophy to this team with their types of players. Our rise to become a championship calibur team will take more than 1 offseason. I think the team has gotten off to a great start, and I'm looking forward to seeing our draft class next year.
Nice post Parfly. I feel pretty much feel the same way you do but I admit to a little buyers remorse.
Well what higher quality of players would you have brought in? I think that goes back to the previous question when you were asked what moves you would have made since the end of the Herm era.
Exactly. He should explain his gripe in detail so people will stop thinking he is just a miserable football fan for no reason but to be miserable. Champ...should we have taken Hariington? Culpepper? TO? What should we have done? Should we have not taken Mangini and gone after someone else? If not, what should we have done?
IMO it is WAY too early to feel that way. There are many ways to build a team, and we won't know for a while whether this way works. I'm assuming that someone will have a "predict the record" thread at some point, and right now I'd go with 6-10; if the Jets had somehow drafted a playmaker, I doubt that I would have felt very differently. Oh, BTW, I think the word some people are looking for is plurality, not majority - majority means more than half, plurality means the largest part when it is not at least half.
Well, since you went on a rant jetman, I might as well. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF PEOPLE BLOWING OF THE ENTIRE FLIPPING SEASON BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT IT'S SUPPOSEDLY A "REBUILDING" YEAR. IT'S F*CKING BAD ENOUGH THAT WE ROOT FOR LOSERS; ALL RIGHT, NO NEED TO HAVE A A HEART OF A LOSER. YOU CHOSE TO BE A JETS FAN, IT'S YOUR OWN F*CKING FAULT, SO SUCK IT UP. EVEN IF YOU DECIDE TO GIVE UP ON THE JETS THIS YEAR, THERE IS NO FLIPPING NEED TO COME UP WITH EXCUSES FOR IT. I HATE FANS WHO CAN'T SHOW A LITTLE F*CKING FAITH AND HAVE SOME FLIPPING CONFIDENCE IN THEIR TEAM, AND I AM THOUROUGHLY DISGUSTED BY IT. I'll be in the bunker.
Understanding the reality of the roster is fine, something everybody does, but giving up after knowing the reality of the roster is what I hate.
Who is giving up? That's crap. Giving up is what half of this board did when they found out they might have a chance at the Reggie Bush Sweepstakes and started rooting for the team to lose games so they could have a better draft pick to dream about. There are people here that are prepared for the fact that half of our team has never played a regular season game with the other half. I don't think many people are giving up hope, it seems to me more like they are tempering that hope with the way they expect the development of the team to go from what they know of football and the rebuilding process. I'm also not going to sit back and muse at the blowout score and tell myself "Bah, it's just a rebuilding year, these losses don't matter." If those rookies are improving, if the line starts to jell, I'll bite my tongue and not curse the Jets for breaking my heart another week, because I know this isn't a one-year process, and it's finally happening... for better or worse. But the way things are shaping up, I do not blame some people for having higher hopes than I do, just sharing my thought process on the subject.
My main beef with the draft was not our first three picks but with the 3rd rd and NEEDs. We had the ammunition to trade up for Bush, one of the most talented, dynamic and electrifying players to come to the NFL in a very long time. A player that not only brought much NEEDed excitement but also filled a big NEED. Tanny and Mangy felt that team had too many NEEDs to give up additional 1st day picks for one player; I supported that thought adn decision. What totally confused was that they used 2 first day picks on a safety and inside LB. On a team so desperate for talent and depth, those were 2 positions, probably the only 2, that we actually had depth and talent. Not only did we not even NEED players at those 2positions, the players they drafted were total reaches; guys who had no business getting drafted in the 1st day. Call me crazy, but I feel that when you are rebuilding and low on talent, you shouldn't reach or draft players at positions you are already strong in. However, if you must reach, at least do it to fill a NEED or if you must draft a player at a position that you have depth and talent at already, at least do it because it is the best player available. I know that Tanny and Mangy were looking for their kind of players but I have a really hard time believing that there weren't any smart, hardworking and tough players at other positions than safety and inside LB. Had I known that we were going to do what we did in the 3rd rd, I would have never supported not trading up for Bush. No matter how you look at it, we are a couple of years away. I rather be a couple of years away w/ Bush than without.
We had what was needed for a trade (for Bush) but it would have ment not filling any other needs. Also could you say who you would have drafted or at least what positions you would have drafted. What picks did you not like of the Jets?
Well for sure it is the job of the GM to upgrade the team. If YOU know that you have non quality ball players like we have at the present moment then you should be attempting to find better players. That is simple common sense. Not knowing the resources available that meybe very easy to say & very hard to do. In any case until many of the present starters become ex NYJs we will be just be on the same merry go round we have been on for the last 37 years
Sure I have. Why would you ask such a silly question? You should really/truly enroll in a course in FB 101.
