Many prophets are mentally ill by diagnosis after the fact and have exceedingly violent impulses directed mainly at their followers. It's part of the normal megalomaniacal complex that accompanies delusions of grandeur that are validated by others. Note that I'm not making a blanket statement here and I'm certainly not suggesting that all prophets are megalomanical with delusions of grandeur leading them to harshly punish, even to the point of killing, former or current adherents. Just most of them.
Heh, timely. Or should I say 'timeless'? It's going to sink Romney. Folks find it too 'odd'; but the thing is, if you read what the tenets of the LDS says, it isn't any more 'odd' than anything else we're fed and expected to believe from childhood. In other words, there isn't any smart or stupid difference.
