Aside from the initial reaction of no fucking way, there are better QBs available than Darnold. Just go with Derek Carr and be done with it.
Sam was done in NY. The first mistake the knives would have been out. He imploded so much that there was no way he could have stayed. Much like Zach now. The comments on here and elsewhere are almost the same. I only caught the end of the Panthers game yesterday but, frankly, Sam looked pretty much the same guy to me. Needing 4 points to win with 2 minutes left and 3 TOs I'd have no confidence in his ability to vet the win.
Easy to say in with hindsight, but what guarantee do you have that this CS would've done any better with Darnold than they did with Zach? Of course they would've had whatever haul they could've gotten for the #2 pick, but let's not pretend that Darnold is any kind of answer for this team.

The history of USC QB's is pretty bleak. Not one Trojan QB has made the Super Bowl in the history of the game. The only USC QB that has come close is Carson Palmer. He made it to the NFC 2016 title game w/Arizona. Had a very Jet like finale. The Cards lost to Carolina 49-15. Palmer tossed 4 interceptions one of which was a pick six. Also was sacked three times. Those results are very USC like w/many of the former Trojans. Sanchez, Darnold, Leinart. Please no more USC QB's
Well you did say this Why do you think that virtually EVERY analyst on TV -- draft gurus, ex-players, ex-QBs who were very good, etc. -- have all said they like Sam and think he can be a Top 10 QB in the NFL ? What are they seeing that we Jets fans are not ?

I was and I got practically laughed off the board . You always take the picks unless it’s Luck or Manning or Burrow. Like a clear translation to the NFL game. With all those picks, any competent GM would be salivating. You don’t need EVER to draft a QB high. Purdy making everyone GM and wannabes look silly.
