Chandler Jones is a FA after the year, how do you know what he is demanding? Or are you in on the inside of those negotiations too?
I know what he demands because he is free FA AFTER this year. So I know EXACTLY what he is going to be paid this year.
He's making less because he's still on his rookie deal and Mo is playing for the franchise tag. If he puts up more than double digit sacks in Arizona he'll be looking at an ever larger deal than Mo since he plays the more valuable position.
You don't know what will happen next year. The point is saying "Jones was traded for X therefore Mo should be traded for at least the same, or bust" is idiotic.
You don't know what will happen next year either, so why are you preaching to the choir when you just acted like you've been negotiating Jones' free agency deal? If Olivier Vernon and Malik Jackson got deals worth over $80 million, Jones will command the same, if not more as he's a better player. 7 more career sacks than Vernon (and a better run defender), 22 more than Jackson. I think it's safe to say he'll make more than $10 million a year.
And what does that have to do with how much Jets value Mo and what pick someone else might be willing trade for him. You can quote and compare other teams/players all day long, none of this is relevant to Mo's tradebility.
Because the market is generally set for players at similar positions. If a team gave up a 2nd for Jones, one would doubt Wilkerson would fetch much more, especially with what seems to be very large contract demands. They play differently, but are they not both ultimately measured on their ability to rush the passer? The Jones trade coupled with the deep defensive line draft, and the massive contracts Vernon/Jackson received all factored in to not being able to trade Wilkerson. The deeper defensive line draft moreso, but Belichick jumped on that one right away knowing all of this.
Either I'm massively missing something, or you are. The original sentiment that started me arguing was along the lines of "pats got 2nd for their guy so Jets must get at least - whatever in was, 2nd I think - for Mo (else it's mandatory bust, incompetent FO, will never watch, fire everybody - the usual jazz) I kept saying that you can't apply parameters of one trade to another directly. You're agreeing with me, but ... disagreeing?
I just hope McCagnan is better at trading than drafting. Get something back for Mo, and sign Fitz. The FO is making it more difficult than it has to be. When Mike McCagnan was director of College scouting for Houston 2011-2014 here are the QB's he helped pick: TJ Yates Ryan Griffin Tom Savage source: http://www.draftsite.com/nfl/draft-history/2016-2012/houston/26/0/ I believe we can safely add Hackenburg to that stellar list. Please do the right thing Mike and get Fitz back, trade Mo for a solid OL and another future wasted 2nd round pick.
You're arguing with yourself if that's the statement. The Pats got a 2nd for their guy so the Jets should get at least a 2nd for theirs... but you can't apply the parameters of one trade to another? Those statements contradict each other.
