the problem isnt with our scouting or draft boards, its in the philosophy and implementation of which that screwed the jets. tanny just had no identity for himself as a gm and relied heavily on his coaches wants. the problem with this however is that coaches generally spend more time worrying about their own players than scouting, so when you take your coaches word over your scouting department, it spells trouble.

idzik seems to have a good strategy of bpa in the draft and best value for free agents. of course, we cannot accurately judge his free agent philosophy in year with limited space on the cap, but it seems as though he looks for value over big names

either way; absolutely nothing wrong with what idzik has done so far. yeh, he traded the best player on the team, but despite how much i had hoped revis would give the jets a home team discount, it appears that there is too much bad blood between parties for that to have been considered. revis got his money, and will likely return to form, and really there is nothing the jets could have done about it short of paying the price tag that woody apparently was against.

as much as i hate the revis trade, his hands were tied, and the bucs knew it.

I'd like to see a strong Director of Player Personnel brought on.
Pro Personnel head and all scouts would report up to them, and they'd essentially be the GM's right hand in all things relating to personnel strategy.

Having another strong football guy in the decision process never hurts.

I don't know what a guru in player personnel would know that the guys who spend an entire year watching, evaluating and visiting wouldn't know and I am guessing they probably wouldn't know half as much.

Anybody who watched the post draft presser has to conclude that Rex is just the coach. which is pretty important. But he is not doing personnel on this team. They may ask his opinion, but no one in their right mind would lean on him. He is a one trick pony.

If idzik doesn't like the job his scouts do he'll find different scouts. Especially now that the draft is over.

Speaking of "gurus", I'd love to know who the guy Rex was taking all his secret advice from. He said he'd only reveal his "guru's" identity if the season went well, and welp, so much for that.

Other than Darrelle Revis what great player has Bradway found in now 12 years of looking?

D'Brick and Mangold are both very good players but neither of them is going to the Hall of Fame at this point, at least not unless the Jets win a few Super Bowls in here somewhere.

My issue with Bradway and talent evaluation remains the same as it was in 2003. Too much wishing and projection of physical attributes and not enough production from the players he finds.

Stephen Hill would have been a great 6th round pick or a wonderful 2nd round pick by the Raiders. There is no way he was worth a 2nd round pick by a good team. I'll leave the question of who did the trade up alone since i have no idea whether that was because Bradway had Hill's name underlined 3 times on the list.

This, BTW, is the story of Bradway and the Jets in a nutshell. Somehow they wound up trading up for a great talent who turned out to be not a great talent at all.

You can point the finger at Tannenbaum and Rex and Mangini and Herm but ultimately nobody has had more say in how the Jets valued college players than Terry Bradway and they haven't gotten enough play out of the people he valued.

Chaz Schilens and Justin McCareins. Two guys separated by a football lifetime but with the same issues - those primarily being that big and fast doesn't make you good.

Agreed 100%. Justin McCareins wasn't even fast. 4.51 40 at the combine. He was just bad.

The fact that Bradway 1) traded up for DeWayne Robertson 2) drafted a kicker (nugent) -- and not even a good one at that -- in the 2nd round, 3) gave up a 1st round pick for Doug Jolley, ends the discussion as far as I am concerned.

Mangini and Tannenbaum -- Gholston aside -- had the most successful drafts of the last 10 years. If you study what Mangini did in Cleveland -- Joe Haden, Alex Mack -- it's obvious that Revis and Mangold were Mangini picks.

Bradway couldn't find you a franchise QB if you gave him the #1 overall pick 10 years in a row.
