Your last statement is where we just disagree completely. I happen to think a top WR is extremely important, especially with a young QB. I understand he is a headcase, I just feel his talent is worth the risk. I also think Rex seems like the type of HC that can handle a kid like Marshall. It really depends what the price ends up becoming, I'm basing my argument on giving a first round pick, I have no idea whether that would be enough, probably not. I fail to see how trading away a first round pick for a proven legit superstar is sacrificing depth or a draft which is an argument I have heard. If we can get Marshall for a first it is a no brainer as far as I'm concerned, if it's for multiple draft picks it becomes more of a question. One I would still consider, I think Marshall is that good.
In no particuliar order Randy Moss 1st rd Larry Fitzgerald 1st rd top 10 Steve Smith 3rd rd Andre Johnson 1st rd top 10 Calvin Johnson 1st rd top 10 Reggie Wayne 1st rd Brandon Marshall 4th rd Terrell Owens 3rd rd Anquan Boldin 2nd rd Roddy White 1st rd not every single one of them but a majority of them are 1st and 2nd round picks. Braylon Edwards was a top 10 pick while Ocho Cinco and Greg Jennings were 2nd round picks and can sneak into the top 10. Similar to drafting a cornerback but not the same extreme, when you draft a WR you pay for what you get. All I'm saying is i wouldn't be surprised if we target a WR within the first 2 rounds.
I sure as hell would hope that they wouldn't do that. Would rather see them draft for Defense and specifically DL w/a 1st rdr.
I don't think we should draft anything but defensive line or offensive line in round 1 for the next 3 years.
This is the reality of the way the NFL currently plays the game. A team without a deep threat can still win games, and depending on how great the D is, perhaps can even win it all. But you are giving away an awful lot, even if you think you can put it together elsewhere on the team. I am usually not a big fan of bringing in baseball analogies to talk about football. But let's say you are going against a team, doesn't have to be the majors, where the other team has trouble with the curve ball. Does that mean you never, ever, change it up? Obviously the curve is more effective if your pitchers now and then can throw some heat, let alone other pitches. Without the deep threat, the running game is easier to defend. Says it all.
Why not? They can just sign them when needed as they did with Faneca, Woody and Jenkins. I would rather they go that then draft another Gholston.
I don't trust the Jets to draft an elite WR based on the fact they wanted Percy Harvin which is exactly why I'd give up a 1st n a 4th for BM. I know the game is won in the trenches and outside of dbrick, mangold and moore everyone is 30+ years old. However I feel we are THAT bad at WR. If we are gonna draft a WR within the first 2 rounds of the draft, I think its worth securing a 25 year old elite WR over a unproven rookie. We know based on reports we are searching for another wr. Why not get a proven player? The only way this coul backfire is if BM gets suspended or we get a top 5 pick
We traded for Jenkins, we would have had to pay him a lot more money on the open market. Kind of like when we overpaid for Faneca. I would prefer to get them while they are young and healthy and let them play their way into the starting lineup. If they don't learn from the mistake they made from Gholston, the team isn't going anywhere anyway.
I think Marshall is a nightmare in the making for any team willing to sell the farm to get him. Yes, the Giants made a great move by acquiring Burress and probably would not have won that SB without him, but that did not benefit them in the long run. Would it be worth it to you to give up a 1 and a 4 to get Marshall, win a SB and then lose him immediately to some idiot criminal act? I ask this honestly.
If we win a superbowl, yes its worth it. As of now, the odds are greater that we would lose him to a stupid act then win a superbowl even with his services.
probably not....he's already exceeded expectations after tripping over his McDonalds bag and falling into a TV set.
