Nah, there was still what, 1:40 left and the Bucs with two timeouts.

I did wonder when the Bucs got a first down in Jets territory on their last drive if the Jets shout let him score if he wanted to.

The only way we win this game is if McD runs around back and fourth for two mins, then gets into the end zone with no time left on the clock.

I don't know, this is the Jets we're talking about. They would still probably find a way to blow it in that scenario.

I love how in one thread we've gone 0-38 on 4th and 1, and in this thread we should consider chewing clock for a couple of downs and then getting the easy score from the 1.

    hahaha.

Absolutely insane to even consider that. You score and take the lead. That’s what winners do. It’s time to stop thinking like losers and make the D accountable. We lost two freaking games on last second field goals because our D can’t stop shit. It’s pathetic. .

I’m sorry. Those are the worst of times. In addition, it never gets easier no matter how many times you have done it. Peace.

I don't know: I kind of appreciate the ingenuity of this thread.

That being said. No, he should not have. You are not asking too much of a defense to stop the opposition from advancing the ball have the length of the field in 90 seconds or less.

If he did that, and the Jets offense starts 1st & Goal from the 1-yard line, the offense would have been penalized, blown-up screen passed, and sacked back to the point where we would have been looking at 4th and Goal from the 35. These are the Jets, after all.

Then, if by some miracle the Jets were to score a TD on the 4th & 35 play, and made the extra point attempt with, say 40 seconds left on the clock. The Bucs and Mayfield would heave it up on first down, one of their receivers would blow past the three Jets DB's (as they did on the incompletion after the Jets took the lead) and make the catch (or get a DPI) that would put the ball within FG range, wherein the Bucs' kicker would have the ball *DOINK* off both goal posts and then fall down to the cross bar and flop over for the field goal and Bucs' victory.

Long story short. These are the Jets, all hope is futile.

I know how hard that is. We had to do that twice within the last four month of 2024. Saddest days ever.

    Nah.

Score and play defense to secure the W.

Of course the Jets didn't do that.

No. Taking the knee there would have been the dumbest play in the history of football.. If they had the lead, then sure, but they didn't. So you take MAYBE 30 seconds off the clock (Bucs had 2 TOs, so prob not even that) on a play that might not even score? You have to go for the lead there and expect that the defense doesn't completely collapse.

I can already see it now. They take the knee and then it's first and goal from the 2 and they have a holding penalty back them up 10 yards and go 4 and out. With a team as inept as this you have to take the points when available. You only take the knee if it's a game ending situation with the lead.
